Cardiff Thoughts

Once again an amazing day out but Ive got to apologise to everyone:

We arrived too early and the tension hanging around got to me. I used the wrong airhorn (the £6 type) for the first two rides and ran out of gas during the 3rd one.

Switching to the £5 spare one, I was able to breeze through the rest of the programme but it all went pear shaped in the final when the gas supply froze on the second lap. Fortunately, things thawed for the presentation!

In all seriousness, congrats to Jason for taking full advantage of the re-run final but still having the guts to acknowledge that his luck could run out any second.

Greg was the moral victor on the night but it cost him points. Could anyone see the Polish ref excluding a Polish rider? I think not.

Was shocked to see the lack of challenge from Super Nicki or Adams. Other than that it seemed to be situation normal. Seemed to be less people booing Nicki this year!

Track was poor compared to the last couple of years.

Bonnie Tyler - not too impressed. Tony Christie - very much a 'filler'

Oh, and the programme just isnt worth £7. I certainly wouldnt have bought one if I hadnt got the free one with my ticket.

All in all, another memorable day - Roll on 2007...

I have to admit that I didn't think the atmosphere was so good this year either, not just in the stadium but around the City as well, but this didn't spoil things for us.

Agree with you there LW! Atmosphere wasn't very good (In the stadium)! Not many people seemed to be up and dancing along with the music like the previous years! But didnt spoil it for us either!

We were sat in the park for about 4 hours! OMG! I dont mind sitting in the park but for 4 hours when its boiling hot

After being a little reticent about having 4th bend seats I have to say I loved it there, although we did move up the top tier about a quarter of the way through to avoid the sun glare and also to sit with the very large Chivsy group including the Fairies....this certainly made the fun even better.

4th bend was really good Sue! Saw you from where we were sitting! Me and Beercellar left our group and went right up to the top! Great view! More room to dance about in!

605ts's thoughts on Cardiff -

Crump good but flippin lucky! That makes up for last year though.

Pedersen - dire, made all the more better by the fact we were sat just behind a set of Eastbourne fans!

Rickardsson - can't be arsed.

Hancock - still got it, unfortunate in final, best rider in the conditions.

Nicholls - glad he got to the Semi's but knew he wouldn't get any further.

Rico - certainly tried hard, better than the last GP at least.

Fireworks - brilliant.

Atmosphere - awesome.

Juniors - on too early, should have been on after Bonnie Langford or Tyler whatever she was called.

Tony Christie - GENIUS.

Beer - that Brains stuff is top notch!

POLES - brilliant, I love you all! Especially the guys who ran round the third tier on the third bend all night waving flags around. Loved watching them walk down the streets of Cardiff with all the locals not knowing what to do!

PRE MATCH BUILD UP: OK, BUT THE SPEEDWAY RAP PART WAS POOR SOUND QUALITY.

SEATING: 3RD BEND,3RD ROW, POOR CHOICE.VIEW OK, BUT PREFER LOOKING DOWN ON RIDERS, BECAUS OF FENCE ETC, , TOP TIER LAST YEAR !MIDDLE TEIR NEXT YEAR

TONY CHRISTIE: NICE SURPRISE ! SGP ORGANISERS WENT TO SOME TROUBLE THERE.

RIDER INTRODUCTION: THE A - TEAM IDEA NOT BAD, WORKED WELL.

RACING IN GENERRAL: SOME GOOD ACTION, SHAME ABOUT THE TRACK DETERIATION LATER ON, MOST RIDERS STRUGGLING WITH THE BUMPS N DIPS, LOADS OF LIFTING.

CRUMP: LOOKED V FAST, DESERVED TO WIN.

HANCOCK : LOOKED v FAST TOO, UNLUCKY DECISION, FELT FOR HIM.

SCOTTY NICHOLLS: LAME START, WICKED COMEBACK, HEARTPOUNDING 2 WINS, SORE THROAT FROM SHOUTING !... SHAME ABOUT THE FINNISH

RICHARDSON: TRIED HARD, NOT HIS NIGHT

POST MEETING SHENANNIGANS : EXPECTED TO SEE MORE SUPPORTERS IN THE PUB TO CHINWAG WITH...MAYBE WE CHOSE THE WRONG PUB ?? LOL

VISIT TO CARDIFF CASTLE ON SUNDAY .....WICKED,.... SHOPPING IN CITY CENTRE ON SUNDAY... EXCELLENT.

SUMMING UP :......... WOULDNT HAVE MISSED IT FOR THE WORLD , ALREADY MAKING PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR !! CAN HIGHLY RECCOMEND THE EXPERIENCE !

OUR CHOSEN GUEST HOUSE WAS ONLY 15 MINS WALK TO STADIUM, AND WAS ONLY £44. FOR DOUBLE ROOM AND FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST, OLDFASIONED DECOR, BUT CLEAN AND COSY, EXCELLENT HOSTS. KEEPING LOCATION A SECRET !! LOL

Steve Shovlar in disguise??????

Seriously, what is your problem?? We all have riders we don't like but we don't come on here and practically slander them, particularly when most of what you're saying is total crap anyway!!!!!

Jason may not have been the best rider on show (that was Greg) but he has to take the luck when its given to him, thats what you need to win a world title and thats what I believe he'll do. Obviously as a Belle Vue fan I'll stick up for him but I don't mind a bit of Crumpie baiting but you've taken it too far.

My mum actually met someone outside our travel inn who was as vile about Jason as you are, lucky I wasn't there or he'd have got one hell of a go at from me. Speedway fans are supposed to be nice, would you rather be likened to the footy hooligans on Jeremy Kyle this morning????

Anyway, the actual event!!!

Track - very bumpy and at times downright dangerous, but thats what happens with a one off track.

TRick - better than his last two, but still gives the feeling he couldn't care less

Nicki - where was he???? Awful "performance" from him

Greg - damned unlucky falling off in the final but right decision to exclude him (only right decision the ref made all night!!) otherwise, Greg was fab.

Jason - took the luck, and a deserved winner. Been the best all season. His year again methinks  :D

Scotty - again he chokes at the semi stage.

Steady - tried hard but to no avail. Bit too big an event for him IMO, nerves a definite factor.

Rico - just not at the races.

Company was fantastic and I loved the atmosphere in the stadium, great weekend but unfortunately I missed the pairs

Que??

Slander has to be a lie, how many times have you seen him throwing the camera crew out when things go wrong?? (Not the only one but a fact!!)

Rolling starts- watch the video proof is in the pudding and all that.

And he is a very unpopular rider- i have no team and no axe to gring but facts are facts- if you can't face them then thats your problem.

Shovlar in disguise?? Can't say i've read what he says about Crump but perhaps he doesn't like him either!!?? (can't sat i usually side with Mr Shovlar though, but on this occasion felt the ref didn't deserve to take charge of a mothers meeting let alone an SGP meeting!!)

Very unpopular you say? And that is why 90% of the stadium stayed to applaud his success? Compared to, what, 70% or so last year for TRick? I'd say he was the most popular Cardiff GP winner, along with Hancock...

;):D

I had a fab time!

Took a few GP newbies along as well as a complete speedway newbie and a good time was had by all (they have already said they are coming again next year)

Like beesboybert, my only down point was the young lad who was, i would go as far as saying, harassing my friend (the total newbie). She was really enjoying her first taste of speedway only to have a complete stranger messing and ruffeling with her hair. she seemed to take it lightly at first but after the 50th time it started to grate on all of us.

great to catch up with people who i hadnt seen for a while.

my ideal result from the meeting too!

took lots of photos (see the link in my signature)

cant wait for next year now!!

edit - apologies to who i think may well have been shazzybird! i heard someone mention my name from outside when i was at the hotel reception. i wasnt being ignorant - im sorry! we were all starving and had about 2 mins to order food before the take away closed!

SullyRox, you were in the hotel lift with me with pizzas in your hand, well I think it was you. I was sent to my room to get beer for KevH, Shaz and Addy plus one other. They must think I look like a waitress

My first cardiff and it was pretty good , but i took my daughter ( she was the main reason for going ) and she was overwhelmed by it all . She is 11 and her face when the riders came out in the trucks and with all the noise is something i will never forget .

£7 for a flag , prog and airhorn (thats each) is a bit steep , but what the hell its only once a year .

From where i was sitting , high up in the back straight , it looked like speedway in slow motion although it had its moments .

Fireworks were good and poor old tony christie could hardly sing for laughing because of the airhorns .

For me though the two highlights were seeing glasgow win at newport the night before and the poles - what a great colourful bunch of people . I was sitting with a few of them and their excitement at being there rubs off on you .

I think it is a safe bet i will be back next year and i hope they sit me next to the poles again .

Loved it as usual, I enjoyed the whole trip, meeting friends, great weather, nice beer. Bumped into Ricco, my first meeting with a forum member.

Only down side for me was being classed as a racist, because wrongly some young Welshman thought I had taken his turn in the Prince of Wales at the bar.

The best pairs at Swindon was also great to go to see.

And as for the comments about Jason Crump he may get a little upset, but he is always polite.

Just buy ticket for the top tier, enter through your block no. then make your way anywhere round top tier to nearest POLISH fans easy as that. :)

Or, buy a ticket, walk in throigh any gate you like, up any stairs you like and sit in any spair seat by a Pole. I went in gate 5 (4th bend) but my ticket said gate 1 (2nd bend). The guy on the gate just asked me if I knew where I was going, I told him yes and went and sat on the top tier. I walked past all the stewards and prentended I knew where I was going.

True once in they never check again. Had ticket for 3rd bend but walked round to just above pits and sat near Lewis Bridger.

Well it was a busy weekend, but it was certainly a good one. The weather certainly picked up on the right weekend and it made the Friday and Saturday both really nice days.

Meeting wise I enjoyed it. I know the man made tracks are more unpredictable, but for me this means more throttle control and riders having to use their heads a bit more. The odd slip from a top rider proves how difficult the conditions are, but for me it made the meeting more enjoyable.

Crumpy was the quickest rider on view and certainly was worth the win, although I think the majority of the crowd felt a bit of sympathy for Greg (again) and Jarek.

The "Chivsy Travel" group had a good laugh and I think everyone enjoyed themselves, and have already had some 10 extra people ask about coming next year - just got to decide if i can be bothered to arrange it again

Give it a few weeks I'm sure I'll come around to the idea again :)
