stressed
Anyone taking a camera to Cardiff? What will you do if you are searched and not allowed to enter with your camera? Due to the warnings printed in programmes I thought I would bring this up. After watching the Soccer Aid game last night and seeing literally hundreds of cameras flashes go off all through the game I really am wondering where this rule is coming from and how different events are treating it? Your comments and findings would be very interesting. Oh yeah do yourself a favour and don't leave you camera in your car insist the stadium look after them especially if there is no signage outside the stadium saying no cameras allowed, it'll be far safer. batesie
As i understand it you are allowed to take cameras in but no FLASH photography is allowed when the race is going on. Obviously there is a common sense thing here - bikes going at 60mph+ and a camera flash could be quite dagerous compared to soccer where there are less dangers of a unsuspected FLASH!! SCB
Beatsie, thats not really the issue. Plus how many times have you bene to Cardiff now? Or watched on the tele? As the rider race around lots of flashes lead them around as everyone is taking photos (why the hell do people sue a flash? totally useless!) The problem is some new law aparently that says you are not allowed to take photos at public events, like football and speedway meeting. Personally, I'll probably take my 5 year old point and shoot digi-cam and get some photos of the non-racing stuff. Might be worth giving the stadium a ring, I did about airhorns the first year. Matt Davis
You'll need atleast 300mm 2.8 to get any decent photos of the racing..

Sandie
Isn't Cardiff also one of the stadium that removes bottles of water from your bags as well! Ridiculous if you ask me. I dont have my ticket yet so I cant read the T & C's on it. Does it say what you can and cant take in?

I've never been searched, none of my family have ever been searched either and I tend to go in speratly from them so they can't search that many people for bottles! They don't seem to mind speedway fans taking in air horns or flag poles so I can't see how they'd have a problem with bottled drinks, they can't cause any more harm than an air horn! Guest Steve Dixon
I was searched last year and i had my camera back pack with cam and lenses in, they never said a word! Quote Matt You'll need atleast 300mm 2.8 to get any decent photos of the racing.. Not strictly true Matt, bump up the ISO and you will get good pics, have to crop but they should be ok, see mine from last year.
Louise1445
Off at a tangent I know but ..... the Stadium website now states it's all non smoking and has been since Jan 1st. Anyone been there this year and can confirm? And just checked, Park & Ride is £10 a car this year Edited May 28, 2006 by Louise1445

stressed
Interesting replies so far, I'm not going this year gonna watch from the arm chair for a change. Each time I have been I have been asked to open my bag to make sure I had no drinks, (should of looked under my jacket ) Last year they left me alone as I was on crutches, if you wanna borrow them email me Hope you get your cameras in and get some good shots, look forward to seeing them. All this hassle about taking photos at sporting events inside stadiums is getting beyond a joke IMO do you agree? Look at Formula 1, no problem at all with taking photos either at testing sessions or on race days, what is so special about stadium based sports? Any takers? At Speedway I guess you would get a grumpy track photographer who has had to pay over inflated price to take the pics in the first place but if they are for your own use or for official club or rider websites I can't see a problem. SCB
Aparently, you can take picture of young kids. Bit of an extreme reaction if you ask me as I could go and stand in the street and take pictures of young kids! TBH, I'd quite happily show my photos to any official after a meeting to prove I had nothing dodgy on there, let be honest, anyone taking photos these days has a digi-camera anyway so can prove what pictures they have. Anyone caught with anything dodgy is detaned and the police called. Newport speedway really don't seem to care, I counted about 8 people with cameras at the sidecars today, there were only about 150 spectators in total!! There is room for everyone in my opinion.

I'm not paying their ridiculous prices for water. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm pretty sure it's the bottle tops that they would take off you anyway...Apparently without a lid you can't throw it at someone. Easy solution...i do it for every football game i go to - just put it inside your coat, and once you're inside..you're free to put the top back on and fire it at anyone you please! Me personally...i wouldn't be throwing mine unless S***ehewe* got a call up again... Failing that...drop me a line, and i can use my pit pass to smuggle all sorts of stuff in - for a small fee of course!

From PC to KC.
After the recent spate of stabbing,s they,ll be taking our knives off us next. Probably won't be allowed to use a pen if the nib is too sharp , might try to stab a rider. Seriously tho i have been searched for bottles, increases the stadium,s catering profits. Once had an AIRHORN confiscated at COV v,s SPURS F.A CUP FINAL. Depends on the JOBS WORTH ,you get on your particular entrance.
Joanne
They shouldn't go routing in your bag anyway, you should empty it for them. That is what I have been taught. Best thing to do is buy a handbag with an umbrella section on the bottom and slide the bottle inside there

Thanks MIGGY, It looks like cameras are not banned at the biggest meeting in the Speedway calendar in the UK but for league and challenge meetings at your local tracks they are? Even though there is no signage outside the stadiums saying so! Get some cracking shots people I look forward to next weekend with a couple of bottles of Red and Sky Sports Thanks everyone for your comments, it makes interesting reading. The first year they refused to let us have bottles of drink, and from then on I've taken bottled water and told them that I need it for my medical condition. As for the airhorns - yep IMO they cause considerably more, longer lasting damage than empty plastic bottles. And don't get me started on flags.... I had the family from hell behind me last year - the youngest had a flag that it kept waving, hitting me in the head with the pole each time, then kicking me in the back. I put up with this for the first 15 heats before I started getting really fed up. Final straw was when one of the other kids (well, she was about 15ish) put her airhorn right next to my friends ear and blew it. I went mental and nearly ended up being punched by the dad who thought it was perfectly acceptable behaviour. I have taken a camera each time - and never had it confiscated or told that I couldn't take it in. I have only taken photos between the races, outside or before the meeting starts. Because my digi camera is not top of the range, super-duper does it all, it has a tendency to "flash" when a higher spec model wouldn't, so I don't use it in races.
