Under 21s World Team Cup

Recommended Posts

I can not belive that the BSPA have pulled our team out of this event, what are they thinking of are we always going to be behind the rest of the speedway world in youth development.

Greame Drury did as he always does and encounaged James Wright to miss a meeting for Workington to ride in this meeting only for certain other promoters to put pressure on the BSPA to pull the team out which they have.

Who could these promoters be well the riders that were going to be involved were Ben Wilson (Sheffield) Lewis Bridger (Eastbourne) Daniel King (Ipswich & Mildenhall) Edward Kennett Rye House & Eastbourne) so who are the ones to blame ?

Who ride on the 4th & 5th June when they would be away

The 4th is the Elite best pairs so none would be involved there.

5th Eastbourne 5th v Swindon home

5th Ipswich v Reading away

4th Mildenhall v Glasgow away

4th Rye House v Workington

Workington - no problem

Sheffield - no fixtures

so its between

Eastbourne - Ipswich - Mildenhall - Rye House

to blame

Its disgusting in my view and im not going to guess who it was but ill say it was two promoters who generally get there own waywith the BSPA.

Sadly it's typical of the short term outlook of many speedway promoters. This kind of meeting is exactly the kind of experience young British riders need to progress to highest level. With this kind of outlook by promoters can we really expect to see a British World Champion (oops sorry GP Champion) again. If we do it will be in spite of the BSPA and not because of them

Didn't Jon Cook say when withdrawing Lewis Bridger from the squad that he didn't need the U21 level of competition and should be considered for the senior squad? I'd assume that with Kennett also in the Eastie team now where some of the pressure to pull us out has come from.

Very poor judgement in my opinion - these lads need international experience in any guise. Can we expect to see our riders withdrawing from the world U21 Championship also because they 'don't need it'?

Shocking decison to pull team England out.

Yes I said England as I can't understand why William Lawson was not in the squad. Oooops silly me I can understand why he wasn't. He is Scottish and can't possibly be considered :mad::mad: despite the fact that he is having a brilliant season.

Lawson struggles to get too meetings in this country, so getting to Germany would be even more of a problem. His commitment in getting to certain meetings over the past few seasons has been questionable so maybe mud has stuck. Perhaps Oakes wasn't happy about him missing the under-21 final either.

Lets be honest this under-21 world cup when announced was a great idea and was excellent for our young riders to gain abit more experience abroad. Unfortunatly though the competeition was a farce last season with teams dropping out and B teams and mixed nation teams having to make up the numbers. With important EL and PL meetings on this specific weekend then it's not really worth it as the competition just doesn't justify the riders absence.

I'm not surprised Drury is keen to let Wright go as his record at Rye is dreadful and his guest will most likely score much better.

Wouldn't surprise me if Len and Cook objected to the riders going. Afterall Rye will have Kennett and Boxall missing and Eastbourne would have Bridger and Kennett.

I'm all for our young riders getting more experience, but the tournament is a farce and just gets in the way of important league meetings.

Hopefully the under-21 tournament gets better in the future and then it will be worth sending our youngsters.

Yep your team Kings Lynn are the benchmark for giving our young Brits team places. How many foreigners in that team now? 6 is it? Pot, kettle, black old son.

As I have said if this tournament wasn't treated as a nothing more than a joke by some nations then fine, but last season it was embarrassing.

Get the competetion in good working order and make sure every nation takes it seriously and then we can send our youngsters over.

Why should we lose our youngsters for a meeting to go and participate against Germany, Germany B and a Mongolia/Russian select?

Think you'll find that the final last year consisted of Poland, Denmark, Sweden and Czech Republic with strong teams put out by all. Granted some of the qualifiers were poor with teams dropping out, such as America and France, but would we rather be bracketed with them or the 4 countries who took the comp seriously.

Not talking about the final. We didn't qualify for it anyway. The qualifiers were poor and as you say a few nations pulled out. The Czezhs were seeded straight into the final as well so another reason why the tournament is a joke. Yes they were the home nation, but it's laughable a team can be directly seeded into a supposed world final.

nothing whatsoever to do with 'my team', (although i know how you like to slag them off at the first opportunity  ) it's more to do with the future of the sport in the UK ...

i've been watching or involved in the sport for a number of years and want to see Britain get back to being either at the top, or near the top, of the speedway tree.

if Chris as a Rye House fan can't understand that then i will just have to throw words at you that you might understand ... Peter Schroek, Jens Rasmussen ... remember them? remember the impact they had on the National League? remember the 'free-for-all' after that?

so lay off the Kings Lynn rubbish that you constantly spout, and think about the sport as a whole.

old son

Yep I want to see us get back to the top and dominate again as well.

Blame tango man Russell for bringing them over. Any number of clubs could have bought the first foreigners over. Do you honestly think that if the tango man hadn't have bought them over then no other club would have signed foreigners? No.
