Tailgunner
With wembley being finished this year would the GP possibly go there in the future ??? , i would prefer cardiff with the bars , hotels, resturants etc all close near the stadium, as far as im concerned wembley im sure the stadium will be amazing but can you imagine the prices for drinks and food inside, also what about the night before the GP and the whole day drinking and partying wembley only has a few pubs , 1 hotel and not exactly a nice place to visit is it. i say keep it in Cardiff

I'll just say, what I've said before..!! Have 'em at both..!! The Welsh GP in the Millennium and the English GP at Wembley. IF (and it's a big-ish, IF) we ever got the chance to stage Speedway again at Wembley it would be INSANITY not to take that chance. As I've (often) said before too, though, IMHO it's the Olympic Stadium we should (also) be eyeing up as a GP (or better still, proper World Final!!) venue post-2012... However Cardiff has a big plus point -it's central. This means that there are plenty of hotels around the area (even if tghey hike their prices up by £30 for the day!) and you can make a day of the whole event without being stuck out in the sticks. Mr Bobbin' and I were watching one of the free footy DVDs they have been giving away recently and thought that having a Scottish GP at Hampden Park would be a top idea as well - why not have all three countries represented? rabbit
No-brainer in my book - Cardiff wins every time on every front. Soon as it ever went to Wembley I'd stay at home and watch on TV.
Tailgunner
Ever been to Hampden park ? i went there to see Eminem not impressed at all, its about 10 miles from the city centre and not many pubs about , the surprising thing was no drinking in the streets at all, the police clamped down on anyone drinking cans in the street so hampden ?????? norbold
As Parsloes says we've been here before. And I agree with what he says. It comes back to this question of do we want to gain more recognition for speedway or are we content to leave it as is with the following it has now? Many people complain that speedway is not given enough publicity in the media. Whether we like it or not Wembley is the spiritual home of sport in this country and to have a Grand Prix there would certainly gain speedway more publicity. Tailgunner
Apologies if this has been discussed before, being a newbie to speedway only because the GP is in my hometown Cardiff, would hate to see it leave love the whole atmosphere all weekend. shazzybird
Welcome to the speedway forum Tailgunner, I agree it should stay in Cardiff, I love visiting there year in year out and now my friend has moved to St. Athans gives me a great excuse to go see her as well
Hazzman
Cardiff has a deal until 2011. We had a convo on this not so long back and Cardiff won, mainly due to Wembley's positioning in London. It did say however that BSI had considered other venues before signing deal with Cardiff. Wembley looks like it will only be used for three things. Concerts, Football and Rugby League. London Witch
Hi Tailgunner. Welcome to the forum. In case you're interested click here and you can find what was discussed last time. Interesting to read that you discovered Speedway due to the Cardiff GP and that you love the whole atmosphere. How does Speedway compare atmosphere wise, within the Cardiff area, compared to other activities at the Millennium stadium? Tailgunner
Hi all, How does speedway compare to other sports in the city mmmmm They are all different, the stadium holds 72,500 and if the expected attendance is over the 45,000 mark they will close a lot of main streets and the whole city centre becomes a big party, with the Cup Final and the play-offs they sort of split the fans into 2 areas, the castle area and the prince of wales area even though there is no real segregation it seems to work with not much trouble, causing trouble in cardiff city centre at football is a stupid thing to do as every street seems to have about 5 camera`s and the police are expert at dealing with anything. With the speedway everyone it seems is there just to have a great time no teams against each other, its about riders , ok you have your club favourites and the brits but i get the feeling its about having fun, everyone having a great time and celebrating speedway, its a bit like a ice hockey crowd that sort of atmosphere, if the sun is shinning then the resturant area (old sams bar area) is great , near chip alley around the corner there is a new place called the brewery qtr (hard rock cafe) lots of bar and resturants and if you haven`t been down the bay yet it worth a look ,lots of bars on the seafront sitting outside , resturants shops maybe worth a visit at lunch time maybe , there`s also the millenium centre (opera house) there , new welsh goverment building, boat trip around the bay, its only about £4 taxi fare from the city centre - 5 min away. i just hope the sun is shinning a big crowd turn up , i just hope one day maybe eventually we could fill the millenium , the whole city really changes and puts the whole eveny to another level. Dont mention the wales rugby games they are a pain in the arse, when wales play its about everyone getting way too drunk all morning and evening of all ages not very nice at all they get about 30 - 50 arrests. Im off on holiday tomorrow for a week so roll on the 3rd be good and enjoy yourself Im off on holiday tomorrow so roll on 3RD June
