Tony seems to lack interest in these past two meetings weather its mechanical or phsycologicol you cant wright him off there is a long long way to go who's to say J.C. wont have a mare next week or maybe one of the newer riders pops up to ruin someones year by putting them out of the semi's.

To be honest, this thread is not about whether Tony will or can come good again this year. We all know that he could easily up his game and win in Cardiff. No, it's more about what sort of person this "entity" Steve Shovlar is. I gave him the opportunity a few weeks back to explain how his intense dislike of Jason came about-basically out of interest-but he failed to do so. OK, it's his prerogative not to post if he chooses, but I thought not to do so showed a lack of class. Now we know that Jason has had 2 storming wins and Tony has been but a shadow of his former self and all he can say (if it was him) is "has Tony had one year too many?" I believe this shows a complete lack of respect for riders other than his chosen one and for posters on this forum. Had he been gracious and acknowledged the situation, I believe he would have gone up in many people's estimation but yet again he fails to do so. Most of his postings are one eyed and some downright spiteful. If he does this to get a reaction, he needs to grow up. If he really is saying what he feels, speedway, in my view, doesn't need "fans" like him. Congratulations to Jason and best wishes to Tony.

Just had a phone call from Steve, and he is on holiday with his wife and daughter for a week. He has asked me to put this on the forum, so that you all know why he hasn't responded!

So if he's on holiday how come he knows this is on here, and how come he was reading it earlier? :P

was he on holiday after the last GP too ....

maybe his holidays after each of the last 2 GP's is to go and mop the brows and be a shoulder to cry on for Rickardsson and Lindback.

can't wait till the 'ginger whinger' gets back.

Subedei,

That's a new one - you're critising Rickardsson for lack of effort in the GPs!! :D

Personally, I think he looked rather bemused last night - as if he couldn't work out what was wrong.  And machinery can't be blamed for the second successive GP.

Rickardsson has been hoist on his petard.  Obviously he approached this season with his only focus on the GP, and treated the other meetings as little more than a warm-up, despite the fact his league clubs are paying him good money. However, the consequence of treating these meetings at less than 100%, was that it's impossible to suddenly step up to the plate that much when the GP series comes around.

Compare to Crump, who's been going hell for leather in the EL this year.  Easy for him, all he has to do in the GP is continue the work he's been doing all year for Belle Vue.

All the best

Rob

P.S. I've also developed a theory that all the bikes that were put into storage during his time at Oxford (i.e. the ones on which he set fast times on in Heat 4, and then "mysteriously" disapeared) were hidden too well!!  He's still trying to find the bike on which he acheived 57.99 seconds against Swindon at the start of the season!! :D :D

Well i am pleased that Oxford`s true speedway legend still holds the track record at Oxford. Hans Nielsen was always a far better all round rider than Tony Rickardsson could ever be. :approve:

Schumi,

Reading through this thread earlier, Schumi, I was a bit worried. I thought push had come to shovlar.

I'm glad it hasn't I'd miss the old reprobate. Love him or hate him, in fairness we have to admit that Steve is a great contributor. :approve:

Just remembered we had a similar thread to this last year when the great man was on holiday. Purely as a joke one of our fat controllers supended him in absentia but reinstated him when his nose renewed its aquaintance with the grindstone. Caused quite a fuss at the time - maybe you remember it?

Thanks for your kind comment on another thread - perhaps a case of it takes one to know one'.

Joy to you,

Ron.

I remember it well Ron. Of course I think we should all remind ourselves that if Steve didn't post, many of us would have nothing to talk about ;)

I'm sure you know my remark was not meant unkindly.

I believe, though I could, as ever, be wrong, that I've been consistent. I think that you'll find - in all those early Oxford and Rickardsson threads - me stating that Rickardsson could live to regret his apparent lack of interest in Oxford. And I rather think I used Crump as a comparison as well.

Now, I couldn't care less whether Rickardsson gives his all or not. He's one of the all time greats, whether you like it or not.

We can all argue in bars, on the back straight, or wherever about who's the greatest rider. You go with Nielsen, others go with Mauger, or Gundersen, or Fundin, or Penhall, or Moore, or Steve McDermott. Everyone has their own opinion and in their mind they're right.

Steve is a top man on here as far as I'm concerned, Schumi, and I agree with your comment about the Noble Duke of Dorsetshire.

Now, me dear, how I possibly take exception to your remark I just meant that it takes a humourist to fully appreciate a fellow humorist. There are some speedway forums where a excursion into the art is actively discouraged!.

I like your signature, Schumi, it's a pity they have to be in such small type!
