Where can I find current averages ? I've found some here: http://www.speedway.nu/2006/snitt.htm but, for example, still I can't understand why Kolodziej's average is 5,05 or 5,37 while Rempala's average is 6,10 or 5,88 (both Rospiggarna). Janusz has 20 points (24 with bonuses) in 10 heats and Rempala only 9 points in 9 heats.

Janusz Kolodziej is going in with the average he finsihed on last year [5,05] his average this year so far is [5,63]

Hope that helps you to understand.

5,63 per what ?

After yesterday's meeting there's: 32 points (37 with bonuses) in 15 heats. I would rather say his CMA is (37:15)*4=9,87. What am I missing ?

The Swedes operate some sort of rolling average that I have never quite determined.

I think Kevin Meynell may be able to explain - it may be on his FAQs?

After yesterday's meeting Janusz's average in Polish / GB terms is 10.57.

(Janusz has an exclusion for 2 minutes although I can't quite fathom whether the Swedes actually count that as a ride)

You are not the only one, it is a bloody ridiculous way to calculate averages and I can´t understand the advantages for doing so...or actually explain it without using a rule book.

Maddas69 has provided the link above, just look under "What are the rules for team selection in the Swedish leagues?" for an example. :approve:

An exclusion for exceeding two minutes count as a ride as the rider isn´t replaced by a reserve. B)

I'm glad I'm not the only one bamboozled by the Swedish averages!

All I can think of is that they have better statisticians in Sweden than the UK.

Here the authorities were unable to get standard averages issued last year within a week of qualifying!

Just think what it would be like if they had to work out:

Individual Average x Total League Matches + Match Average - Starting Average ÷ Total League Matches = New Individual Average

I don't really understand why on earth a 2 min exclusion should ever count towards an average even if the rider isn't replaced.

He hasn't had a ride or even lined up at the tapes - it seems crazy this should affect his average.

Whether he is replaced by a reserve of not is surely academic?

This seems bizarre.

Well it's a system not exactly easily grasped. I've been going to speedway matches for 17 years, and it's only just recently that I've been able to wrap my brain around this intricate formula. And that was because I made a real effort to understand it. Just hanging around speedway grounds and generally reading into the programme won't get you far. It was an excellent explanation on the FAQs page though.
