World U21 Qualifier (sheffield).

Comments by Eagles promoter Jon Cook about Lewis Bridger in today's Sussex press (but made BEFORE last night's meeting):

"It's time to say Lewis is too good for junior speedway. Although he is riding in the World Under-21 Championship, I don't think it is a particularly prestigious competition. Martin Dugard never even bothered riding in it. It's a worthwhile competition for a certain level of English rider to gain experience. But I don't think Lewis needs to be worrying about that level of competition."

Personally, I feel that is exactly what he SHOULD be worrying about - getting experience of different tracks in different countries, against some other promising young riders.

I think it's time for Lewis to start worrying about the advice he's being given.

I was "looking after" these two lads at the Under 21's. Skyler flies home Tuesday --along with his dad and Charlie Vengas (great to see him again in the UK) , whilst Andrew hopes to stay on for a while and get some rides .

Big thank yous to Ricky Ashworth for lending a bike to Skyler and to Richard Hall for doing the same for Andrew.

Thanks for the reply Main Man. I hope Aldridge makes a go of it over here, it would be great to see the Kiwi's making a comeback in the sport.

No problems Salty. As you know I am trying to get a Kiwi Kids tour off the ground and Andrew would hopefully be part of that if it happens.

The USA Dream Team have well and truly established themselves after two tours with two of them heading back for rides soon in Matt Browne and Tim Gomez --and hopefully we can do the same for the New Zealand lads as well.

What a meeting!! This was easily the best meeting I have seen at Sheffield with the riders giving it there all!!

Chris Holder was absolutley flying and I will be making sure I go and see the Isle of Wight match this season. Isle of Wight have got a star in the making and he was making flying starts and easily one of the quickest riders on the night. Good to see Criag Boyce there helping him out with racing lines.

Miedzinski and Zabik were in different class along with Chris Holder and you could see why these 3 got to the final. They were fantastic to watch throughout the meeting and the final between the three of them is one of the best races I have ever seen.

Zabik gated and was just in front of Holder and Miedzinski who did cut back after cut back and must have passed and re-passed about 7 times in the final.

James Wright and Edward Kennett were on the pace but you could see the difference between the likes of Zabik, Miedzinski and Holder in the final with Wrighty not involved. If Kennett came and rode like that with Rye House instead of trailing around at the back then they would put a decent effort.

Kyle was unlucky. 1st race with Kennett was excellent and was nip and tuck all the way to the line. In his 2nd race he tried to go around the outside like he does every Thursday and got stuck in the mud. 3rd race he was winning and Zabik fell and could have easily got up and off the track but stayed down and in the re-run he made a rash move up the inside of Miedzinski. 4th ride was the usual Kyle with the win and the final ride his primary chain came off.

Rene Van Weele was the suprise off the night and could easily hold his own in GB if any teams were interested.

Yes hope Ed and Steve B can re-produce similar form should we get Sheffield in the PT semis.

Not heard of Zabik before, but bet there will be a few PL or even EL suitors for his signature now.

To say the track was as it was...wow! What a meeting, better than some rubbish we see week in week out in the PL! I think Kyle was unlucky, but his glory will come in one competition or another and I still think the guy is good enough and has enough potential to make it right to the top. Expected more from Bridger, but hey it was his first visit to the track and he could easily have done worse. None of the lads last night came and didn't try, because every single one of them gave 110% effort whether the scores show it or not. Karol Zabik was nothing short of amazing and I hope Mr Machin took note of that performance and keeps the guy in mind! Chris Holder was another, I've suddenly gained interest in the IOW meeting coming up later on because this guy never stopped trying and I think he will make it in speedway! All in all a good meeting, never expected a sort of unknown at Sheffield to win it but it was fantastic, a brilliant meeting to watch and I hope some of these PL teams look at how much effort these put in and try and do similar in league meetings!

Well,I made the effort to go up and very glad I did.A terrific advert for the sport.

Practice started at 4pm,and continued till 5pm.That might just explain the state of the track for those that turned up a little later.

NO PRIMA DONNAS HERE! Elite riders please note: head down backside up and go for it.Oh boy, didnt they go for it!

In far from ideal conditions early on,we were treated to some tremendous racing.

Holder and Zabik were exceptional.

Must admit to getting a bit fed up with negative comments about Lewis Bridger. The only part of his racing he needs to sort out is his gating. After the 1st 30 metres or so,he is as fast, and as skilfull as anyone. In the given conditions,it was too much to ask for him to come from so far back. His lack of experience showed at this level.I have absolutely no doubts at all that he can make it.He has plenty of time left in this VERY PRESTIGIOUS event.

I get just as much pleasure out of watching the youngsters,as I do from watching the Crumps,Pedersens,Rickardssons, albeit in a different way.

Many thanks to Jeff Dooley(one of Kyle Legault sponsors),for keeping me informed of the weather conditions on the way up.Much appreciated.

After watching Poole v Pbro, home and away,Plymouth v Carmarthen, and this meeting,I can only say that I have been privaliged to see the best of all levels. The future of our sport is in good hands,if this meeting is anything to go by.

Well done to each and every rider that rode on Sunday.Thank you.

I'm also glad I made the effort for this one - I'd been away Saturday night and was only back in the house an hour, then out again for the meeting!!

I'm looking forward to the IOW meeting even more than I usually do if Chris Holder can repeat that form again, and the two Poles were fantastic. I also well remember Karol's dad Jan riding for the Tigers, so in the end mum and I decided to support him in the final for that reason!! I really hope we see him again in England

From a Sheffield point of view it was a bad night for Kyle, perhaps there was a bit too much expectation on his home track. But he's still got time to learn (albeit not in this competition) and progress.

One or two people have posted about Lewis Bridger, plenty of riders have come to Owlerton with rave reviews and not done well, and I'm sure he won't be the last one. It's a bit disappointing if the Eagles promotion have said that - Shawn Moran wasn't too good to take part in 1981, not to mention others since.

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip BobC., this type of meeting makes it a bit frustrating for us Tigers fans mind you - over half these lads haven't seen the track before and they go out, master the track and give us a meeting like that, you do have to wonder why others can't seem to do it.

Very disappointed with the DVD. Picture quality is superb but there's no commentary at all unlike on usual Claremont Tigers meetings DVD's. So the only way you know who's in each race is to listen to the stadium announcer in the background as the riders are at the tapes. So unless you went and actually have a race card / programme from the meeting it will be very frustrating watching. Poor show for £ 12. Expected much better.
