Rickardsson - How Does He Get A Farewell Meeting?

Recommended Posts

Well I have no intention of attending Rickardsson's farewell meeting. Not out of any principle, more the fact that it is too far away and I dont generally go to these meetings anyway. That said I wish him well and have no problem with the meeting.

However if supporters are looking to boycott meetings then I suggest they choose not to attend any matches at Sandy Lane in which Todd Wiltshire takes part. After taking his farewell meeting money he has no right to be competing at all and his presence in the league brings further shame on our sport.

What utter, utter, tosh. (jeez. I am actually responding to this!! I must be daft!!)

From the few matches that Todd has ridden, it would appear that the vast majority of Speedway fans have welcomed his return! Certainly the Coventry fans applauded him on his return to Cowley, as most fair minded forumers have.

I cannot see how you can use Todd Wiltshire and 'further shame on our sport' in the same paragraph.

What strange people you Oxford lot are. Rob Peasley suggests boycotting a meeting for the greatest rider the sport has known who despite averaging well in excess of 9 points a match seems to be the carrying the can for Oxfords dismal start to the season.

On the other hand a rider who charged 1000s of fans for the so called privilidge of seeing his last rides on these shores, and it is now clear they did not get what they paid for, is welcomed back as the saviour when the reality is he is nothing more than a fraud.

Whilst I don't agree with riders having Farewell Meetings then suddenly re-appearing, I must admit I feel for Todd although yes he made money from the meeting it was rained off admittedly after 12 heats, re-admissions should of been honoured yet on the same token..... the meeting was a "Farewell" therefore a one off, flights were booked etc also it was 15th October end of the season and running out of dates for a re-stage, due to circumstances he has decided that he is going to return, ask him for your money back IF you attended the meeting if that's what's bothering you.

Never mind Rob, I am sure that by the end of the season youo will have purchased a TRick cap and be cheering the worlds greatest ever rider onto a record breaking 7th title.

That's just put the kiss of death on that one Stevie

Rather a dodgy accuation to make.

Would like to see you say that his his face.

How is it dodgy?

Taking money under false pretences is fraud. Selling a meeting as the last opportunity to see the man race here then lo and behold here he is racing again with the money gained safely tucked away.

That is fraud in my book.

It was rained off after 12 heats therefore no-one was due anything! re-admission or money back is only if meeting is abandoned before 6 heats are raced!

I refuse to get drawn into this any further! I believe that 99% of us that attended Todds farewell are happy to see him back racing in this country and are in no way complaining or demanding our money back! It appears to me that it is every other person that did not attend that is whinging!

Fraud would intimate a pre-meditated decision to con the public. Anyone can see that this was not the case - Todd was for all intent and purposes retired until his change in circumstances and the fact he's trying to rebuild his life - that the BSPA have sanctioned his return should be an end of the matter.

Agree with you Tabby 100%.

Same here Tabby. I don't begrudge paying a penny of mine, my daughters or my son's admission money. When Todd retired he thought it was for life, his circumstances have since changed, as they do, and he returned to speedway. Surely nobody expects him to lose everything?

Testimonials, farewell meetings, probably the most meaningless matches on the calendar and not really my cup of tea. But I wouldn't begrudge any rider having one, if a club feels they warrant it.

Surely, it's up to the fans themselves if they want to pay tribute to a rider or not - they either pay their way through the turnstiles or don't - simple. I've little doubt many will turn out for Tony, because whatever your personal opinion of him, he is a rider who has given many, many hours of entertainment to speedway fans in Britain.

Sponsorship packages for Matt Read's Farewell Speedway meeting to be held at Somerset's Oak Tree Arena on Friday September 22nd are now available for anyone interested in supporting Matt in this special event. Matt, who suffered life threatening injuries in a crash during a Longtrack meeting at Morizes, France, in September 2004, is one the unsung heroes of speedway that the sport depends upon and deserves the support of the speedway community for his farewell meeting.

Further details of the packages available can be obtained by contacting Ian Belcher with your contact details at ian_belcher34@hotmail.com and I will pass details on to Matt and Claire.

I take it that its just me who's found it ironic that that there hasn't been a single reply on the thread that this quote was taken from and yet 6 pages of debate as to whether TR is worthy or not. I hope that means you are all going to this meeting or have offered some form of support for Matt?

I think you'll find it's because every single speedway fans KNOWS Matt deserve his meeting. He may have upset a few fans over the year with his riding but that was simply because he gave 100% evey time he went out on track adn sometimes got into scrapes and bother with other riders at times.

Matt got a little bit of stick at Newport a few times after colliding with Wato but I think deep down we all enjoyed watching the guy race, as we knew he would not for one single second give anything elss than his all.

I think it would take a stark raving mad, certified looney to claim Matt did not deserve his farewell meeting.

Incidently, I do plan to be there, Matt is a rider I have admired from afar for a long time, for the reaosn mentioend above.

Sadly, despite the fact I'll quite happily go to TR's farewell if the right riders are in it, I have to admit, Tony has not always been 100% comitted, that said, I think most people would struggle to admit that when he does retire, the sport will lose somehing great, Tony really is a superb rider who when he is putting in the effort (I won't mentioned the 2003 ELRC, opps!!) is a joy to watch, quite possible one of the greatest to watch as he makes it look so easy.

Worlds greatest at what? being the most self centered big headed rider ever to get on a bike?

Get a life.

Regardless whether he has treated this as a fourth priority, he has ridden he since 91 and has been consistently the greatest rider of the last 10 years and in every match and race he has rode in, I have always seen the guy give 100%.

Hes a worthy champion and a good ambassador, but hes a horrible team rider but I think a lot of Poole fans will go to his farewell since his time at the club he averaged around 10 and won the World Championship twice.

What a laugh, this guy only raced when it suits him!!

Good riddance to `im!

Get a life Rob Peahead. Your constant snipes at the greatest rider ever are pathetic and the reason why Oxford fans are not getting any sympathy. Some of the rubbish they have been spouting about Trick has been laughable.

If you want to blame someone for your pathetic start to the season then look at a certain rider in your team at the moment.

Tony will go down as the greatest Rob and that gets under your skin. Get over it. His time at Oxford will be an irrelevance to all but a few like you when looking back on his career.

Wrong its Mauger!!
