Matt Read Farewell Meeting

Recommended Posts

Just got back from the meeting and enjoyed the night's entertainment.

Bomber's wall of death ride in the Final was awesome and to set the fastest time of the night in ht 15 is unusual. Appropriate that one of his sponsors had sponsored the fastest time of the night!

Shame about Glenn not feeling well enough to ride and Boycey having to drop out (Bryn said something about the key for his van had snapped in the door!). Also it was a shame that Danny Bird did not arrive due to traffic problems (I think).

It was good to see the Elite league boys enjoying the OTA and it's typical that Mother Nature intervened at Arena when Joonas, Deano and Floppy were all supposed to be in Readie's original line up!

From a Rebels point of view I hope Steve Boxall forget's to bring that engine next week. He looked fast but I don't think Zorro tried to pass him as he will do next Friday if required!

I am not doubting the reason but it is certainly a new one on me!

It was a shame as Boycey does go well at the OTA and all 3 withdrawals/changes came on one side and did make it slightly one sided and as good a season that Simon Walker and Ben Barker have had this year they cannot be expected to replace Boycey and Danny Bird but fair play to them (as always) they tried their best.

Just arrived home here in Kent and before grabbing some shuteye I think a great big thankyou should go out to all the riders, helpers and fans who contributed to last night's meeting thus making it such a memorable night for Matt, his lovely wife Claire and all the Read family plus friends. I can vouch for the fact that Boycie phoned Matt at the crack of dawn yesterday to explain that he was stymied as far taking part last night - Matt, in turn, phoned me and we explored various options regarding obtaining possible replacements.

Anyway I trust everyone enjoyed it, I certainly had fun and it was a fitting way to pay tribute to Matt.

Totally agree with you Bryn a very fitting tribute to Matt and of course Claire. A brilliant meeting with fantastic racing. What a shame that Danny Bird never made the meeting - but there was certainly a lot of traffic hold ups en route - luckily not on the way home though - we were able to catch the 1.00 a.m. ferry in bed by about 2.30 (just a little earlier than you Bryn).

Brill to see Readie last night in such good form, much rather been spannering for him though. Any way great to see the final was contested by 4 of Matts oldest mates from the youth grasstrack.

Well done to all who helped, pats on the back all round, enough said.

A great night. Good crowd. Some entertaining racing --and some good money spent at the auction afterwards (even Bryn and I got our wallets out!! )

Matt and Claire looked absolutely shattered by the end of the night but still managed to drop in for a much needed glass of refreshment at the Windmill before they headed for a few hours kip and then on to France (hope they didn't oversleep!!).

Well done to everyone behind the scenes for a lot of hard work put in for Matt ---superb to see that cheeky grin of his right to the end of the night!!

Just got back, yes it's 2pm Saturday, 6 1/2 hours to get there, boy was I glad we stayed over!

Under 4 hours to get back!

Fantastic meeting and Matt was in Brilliant form.

The DVD will take some editing, but when available it will be £15 and ALL the Proceeds are going to Matt.

So Cheques made out to Matt Read please.

Lots of interviews, Inlcuing Chris Neath, Simon Stead, Chris Mills, Mick Bell, Sean Wilson, Chris Harris and Matt himself, before and after, plus all the action including the upside down MX riders which just took yer breath away and the Sidecars.

At T2TV we have covered many meeting over the years, but none have given me so much pleasure, what a great guy and a great friend he is to us all..

What a wonderful evening, had a really fantastic time.

Was great to see Matt, and absolutely gobsmacked at how well he is doing.

Some really brilliant racing, though must say one highlight I will remember is 'Bomber' doing his celebration Wheelie at the end and 'overcooking' it (didn't he recover it well though lol ;) ), thought he was going to come and shake hand with us all by the start gate.

Finally got to see Jason race too, his win made my night (but the throat suffered!!)

M.M. - Thanks for the chat and was good to actually get time to talk and catch up (without you running around like someone possessed  )

Finally many many thanks to all those helped organise this event.

Matt and Claire, best wishes for the future, sure we will see you around the OTA.
