Guest Jim Blanchard
As my fellow member and friend CHK did a few times a couple of years back - just for fun can anyone guess where this picture was taken and the name of the riders. I do not have an exact date but I have a good idea. Chunky: you can name the crowd. No prizes though. I am all out of prizes at the moment. Unknown Track Here. cyclone
My hunch was either Fleetwood or Wigan Poolstock .
AndyM
Either way, it looks like a cracker! We could do with a few more like that nowadays.
norbold
Well now, let me see...At a complete guess I'd say it's Halifax and the riders are Geo. Reynard, G. Wilson, Riskit Riley and B. Harrison. Thank you Bryan and Jim on the Vintage Speedway Forum. It's a Forum well worth taking a look at. Just click here
shazzybird
Look at the size of that crowd! Like a modern day Grand Prix!!

norbold
According to Bryan Tungate on the Vintage Forum: The track was "round a cricket pitch...Thrum Hall, Halifax. After the War Halifax was round a football pitch so they did it both ways."
lionheart
Well, although I was never lucky enough to go there, my immediate guess was Sun Street, Hanley.
Bobbin' Along
I'm far too young to know where that is, but I'm guessing it's probably been covered by new housing/shopping complex etc. More's the pity. I'd also hazard a guess that taking spare underwear was a must, standing that close to the safety fence. Reminded me of the first time I visited Exeter (RIP). Type postcode HX1 4JT into google earth and you will see the stadium partially still there although in the throes of being demolished Edited April 13, 2006 by Jeff. Knowle
Got a hunch its Fleetwood. Someone with an old Fleetwood programme could help as they often printed a detailed map showing stadium layout and surrouding streets togther with paybox entrances which appear to be shown in the photo.
