21st century heathen
Forgot to say that Sky did not have a break after six heats. They had a break after 4. It was the riders holding up the match not Sky.
iris123
There's some crap posted on here about the weather with no source to back it up. April is the joint second driest month of the year in the U.K. May is a little drier, and June a little wetter. There is very little difference between the months of April and July (incl.) Source - MetO <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are the expert of course ......but i would have thought even if the rain fall was the same the temperature difference would mean rain later in the year would have less effect due to quicker evaporation,or not? Rob B
Most of the time people say that when SKY are there the meeting will definatly be on, but today I think SKY being there was part of the problem, if SKY weren't there then maybe the meeting would of been delayed till about 7:00. Dec and Jan have close to double the rainfall on average. He also said quite clearly that they were staying out of it.
comebackkings
No this meeting does need to be raced each year but at a track which is netural and a time when we can get all the top riders in it. So how about around the middle of the season and at a premier league track. (sheffield/stoke) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As much as I enjoy watching the racing at Stoke, and as good as the track is, the facilities are just not upto scratch. Coventry is the ideal place to stage the meeting, or on good friday at Cardiff, and have the GP on the Saturday after, it would give the GP riders that can be bothered with the British league an advantage, and if it is raining, so what. I don't think the promotion and trackstaff at Poole can be blamed for riders not wanting to race, after watching the Superbikes race on a river at Donnington, it is making this sport a mockery. Since when have the riders had the power to refuse to ride, as has been stated earlier, the ref should should have put the 2 minutes on and excluded all those that didn't get to the tapes, they didn't even give it a try. For the second SKY meeting on the trot the riders have shown the sport up, I thought they were professionals??

The last time i looked April was renowned for heavy showers, called April showers in fact. Look up another stat. How many meetings get called off in April and how many in June. As i said, rainfall in isolation doesn't give the whole picture.Heavy rainfall in the middle of summer disappears much quicker than rainfall in winter or spring

I assume Steve Brandon still works for Sky.
Liesdale
Well British Speedway shoots itself in the foot once again - how on earth did that get rained off tonight? I've long felt that British meetings fall victim to the weather far too easily, and now we've seen it with our own eyes live on TV. What a week of farce we've had: First of all the rubbish we had to sit through on Tuesday night at Swindon, then that death trap of a track served up at Oxford on Friday, then this joke of a rain off tonight at Poole. 21st century heathen
The official stats given by the MetO show what I have said to be true. They use a 30 year average, 1971-2000. In that time June is a fraction wetter than April. April is prone to heavy showers at the sun becomes stronger, and begins to warm the land after the winter months. Feel free to check the MetO stat fopr yourself. As ever I'm no expert, I just take notice of weather forecasts and stats etc... Back OT
