Find a midlands promoter who will pay for the event.

Or an organisation that is forward thinking enough to plan ahead and not in October/ November when well managed stadiums have already prepared their activities for the year with TV contracts as appropriate and are not prepared to break them for a loss making event. :(

As it is Easter I have made a weeknd out of it. Watching the Panthers on Friday, then travelling down Saturday staying in a hotel in Bornemouth for two nights and incorporating the speedway.

fair play but you can kiss £150 goodbye

The location doesn't particularly bother me, but the date does. This is traditionally the end-of-season classic match, comprising top riders who have proved themselves top of the tree over a season. In the great days of the BLRC, it was held at Hyde Road in October....so what on earth is happening when the ELRC is run at the end of April?! Complete nonsense or what?

I do agree with you there but it have proved over the past couple of years that when these events are held towards to end of the season the top riders are either too busy with their GP commitments or they are packing up to go home or just cannot be bothered with it! Then there is the weather to take into account, though saying that I am worried that Easter is possibly a bit too early too!

My main concern and gripe at the moment is the naming of just one Ipswich rider in the line-up and that rider is not the one that I want down at Poole the day after my birthday ! (although I do like Pepe he is not whom I was hoping to see racing down here!)

I think you'll have a stronger field early season. Late season we were finding a few dropping out due to injury or fatigue (or lack of interest).

I can't see the problem with holding it early season so long as last years finishing averages, and not this years early averages, are used.

I'm gutted that there's no Pepe this year, and he was also a late absentee at the Abbey last year too if I recall? At least this looks like a line up capable of doing the meeting justice unlike the last couple of seasons. :approve:

It looks really hard to pick a winner at this stage, with plenty of Pirates riders (past and present) and Nikki, I am sure, determined to hang onto his crown for another year.

I'd better start working on persuading Mrs Snail to attend this evening - this looks too good to miss! Does anyone have some recommendations for somewhere good to take her for lunch beforehand? ;)

That looks a very competitive line up. I like the idea of it being in April...at least the amount that pull out will be very few, if none. Hopefully it should be reasonably warm also.

Bring on April

The Rising Sun does pretty good Oriental/Thai stuff at lunchtimes and is about a 5-10 min walk from the stadium. Loads of pubs and restuarants of all sorts down in the Old Town heading towards the quay. Not sure which will be open and which not, but there's bound to be quite a few as it's a Sunday.
