Hot Shoe
I know this is slightly off topic (sorry!) but does anyone remember any Mountain Grasstrack meetings? As i remember these were more of a grass oval with half the track on the side of a hill and were incredibly exciting as the solos and sidecars came flying down that hill. Often riderless! There was a track in the South Midlands Centre in the 1960s somewhere around High Wycombe where i remember one of my favourite Grasstrack and Speedway riders Andy Ross winning a few races there. Bavarian
There is still one of those tracks operating here in Germany. That's the Bergring in Teterow - a track of 1800m length and up and down parts and jumps. Simon Wigg won several times here in the 1990's. Teterow may possibly be the very last one of these track surviving until the present time. I don't know of any other one anywhere in the world. iris123
Must admit i was disappointed with my visit to the Bergring(speedway track next door is also my least favourite in North Germany).Reading Wiggy's book,it's obviously a track he loved, but maybe it is more a track for the rider than the spectator. It is certainly spectacular to see those guys come round the giant banked curve before the finish line. But to then see them speed off into the distance and disappear into the woods with only the sound of the bikes for a minute or so,see a glimpse then lose them again......Not really my thing! To me it seemed more a "Volksfest",a place for the youth of the ex-DDR to have a big weekend piss-up.Birds,beer,music and burn ups on their own bikes and the actual racing was just a side-show. Must have been an amazing sight seeing the likes of Wiggy around there!
