f-s-p
In Finland the 3rd member will be either Kaj Lehtinen or Raimo Henriksson. I'd go for Lehtinen...

iris123
Conkers any idea how the meeting runs does everybody ride or just the top 2 in each team with the 3rd rider as reserve? . <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Think that is down to the manager, really. The Russians with 3 top riders will probably give them all a fair crack, while teams with only 1 or 2 good riders wanting to fight for a place on the rostrum will probably stick with the "better" riders(managers opinion on that). But really the top 2 are the ones programmed for the rides Also have seen something that Posa will give it another go next season and hopefully qualify for the GP's,then he is planning some motorbike trek across Europe(ending up in Siberia or China, not sure) with Olle Nygren and Ove Fundin in 2008 Edited March 1, 2006 by iris123
doc
I'm going this year for the first time. Anyone know what it's like geting tickets? Can I pre-purchase or would I be safe turning up on the night (day). Looking at the pictures the stadium looks more exposed than Assen - is this right? Any advice gratefully received? iris123
You can pre-purchase tickets(www.eisspeedway-berlin.de),although without Bauer and Austria and Zorn i don't think the crowd will be so big that it is necessary. The saturday in particular as we have the Aces on Ice in Unna(Sven Holstein is listed for the sidecar comp) as well as indoor speedway in Schwerin competing for fans It is very exposed on the bends and it is blinking cold at the mo,and predicted to stay so for the next week at least with snow every day Edited March 1, 2006 by iris123
Conkers
Doc, if you contact Wolfslayer - he and his friends are going to Berlin, and can give you all the gen you need. One tip, thermal underear on the saturday Night could be a good idea! Iris123 - didn't notice the Austrians weren't in it, but without Franky and Bauer there will be a smaller crowd. I suspect Sweden will be out to get a rostrum spot after the last two years finishing in fourth. I think it will be Germany or the Czech Republic for the othert spot. As for Switzerland, I'm afraid they will be a little out of their depth in their Debut final, and anything above 7th will be a bonus (sorry Malcolm). Mind you, with the number of nations now competing in Ice racing, maybe they could re-introduce the qualifier and include GB, Switzerland, and France with some of the lesser lights (like Austria Netherlands & Czech Republic) with the top 2 going on to the Final? iris123
Think Austria were dropped after last year, pulling out and then having to enter Team Europe.Pity!
iris123
Here is the full line-up and heat details for the weekend.Must say,Sven Holstein being named in the team is a surprise.Wonder if anyone has ever taken up a motorcycle sport and just a few months later been in a World Final? Let's get it on!!!
Conkers
You're gonna hate me - but Anne Van Der Helm took up Ice racing for the 1992 season and he was instrumental in their third place in the team final in Assen that year. Interesting that Verhoef has been dropped but after watching him last week he was well off the pace in the GSS, but a masterstroke by naming Tuinstra at reserve. Mainly because of his injury last weekend I suspect, but he will give Stellingwerf and Holstein some firepower. Russian team - only surprise is Loumpov at reserve considering Bogdanov is higher placed, but then again Loumpov is one of those dependable riders. iris123
Was rather hoping Bogdanov would be in the line-up.Not bad though for Lumpov to be in with the very good chance of being crowned World Champ, just weeks after a top official from the NRMF tried to persuad him to retire,so Khomitsevitch could take his place in the WC semi
iris123
Just back from practice and Bogdanov is riding instead of Lumpov.Doesn't get any easier for the rest! Young Max Niedermaier jr seemed to be flying in the juniors And a few pics here Edited March 17, 2006 by iris123
Conkers
Live results from Berlin First Day: 1) Russia 30 (Krasnikov 11, Bogdanov 10, Baseev 9) (MAXIMUM POINTS!) 2) Sweden 21 (Svensson 14, Sernius 7, Engenström DNR) 3) Finland 20 (Aakko 14, Flyktman 6, Karttunen DNR) 4) Czech Rep. 18 (A. Klatovsky 11, J. Klatovsky 7, Pecina DNR) 5) Germany 17 (Eibl 13, Nikulin 4, Kreklau 0) 6) Netherlands 11 (Tuinstra 6, Stellingwerf 5, Holstein DNR) 7) Switzerland 8 (Gartmann 6, Goldi 2, Weiss 0) Sweden not wanting to miss out on a rostrum spot three years running, but the Russians are running away with it. Gartmann seems to be doing well for the Swiss though, not bad for his first final. Germany certainly missing Bauer, and if it wasn't for Robert Eibl I reckon they'd be further down the order. iris123
Yes,Germany are a one man team at the moment.Slava didn't look on the pace and Marian was very slow in his one heat. The Russians are just playing with the rest.Only in one heat(think it was Klabo?) were they separated for a bit,but the rider was easily passed. Was thinking maybe Sweden will give them a test, but they were given no chance.Sweden should be in a better position but heat 4 was a bit of a farce.Posa and Svensson had the Swiss(Gartmann,as Weiss had been excluded for a fall) easily beat and were putting on a bit of a show.A red light came on,apparently to disqualify Posa for crossing the inside line. They all came to a halt by the pits thinking the race had been stopped,Gartmann then realised what had happened and crossed the finish line to win, then Svensson crossed as well to get the 2 points!Personally i thought the decision harsh as they were really racing each other,Gartmann was well behind, but those are the rules.A lot of mismatches especially with the Swiss heats and when Russia are out,but a few good clashes and some good wheelies Russia will win, think Sweden should pull clear for second barring any more funny business. So it's a battle for the bronze. If Slava finds some form Germany could do it but i feel Finland with Aakko and Flyktman will get it crowd of 3,500 Edited March 19, 2006 by iris123
Conkers
Final result (from Speedway.org) Russia 59 (Krasnikov 12, Baseev 11, Bogdanov 6) Sweden 43 (Sernius 14, Svensson 8, Engenstrom DNR) Finland 42 (Aakko 12, Flyktman 10, Kartunen 0) Germany 36 (Nikulin 11, Eibl 8, Kreklau DNR) Czech Rep 36 (A. Klatovsky 11, J Klatovsky 7, Pecina DNR) Netherlands 20 (Stellingwerf 6, Tuinstra 3, Holstein DNR) Switzerland 15 (Gartmann 4, Goldi 3, Weiss 0) The Russians dropped one point in their opening ride when Posa Serenius split the Russian pairing of Krasnikov and Bogdanov. Bogdanov came in third and was the only Russian to be beaten by someone other than a team-mate. Johnny Tuinstra obviously still suffering from the effects of his fall last weekend from his score. Gartmann can be proud of himself this weekend top scoring for his country in his first World Final. A promising youngster for the future. Look forward to hearing iris123's report when he gets around to it. And I'm not jelous that I didn't go
iris123
Didn't go conkers!Have to save some money for next week when i come over. Sweden made hard work of the silver.Wonder what happened there with a fall and a exclusion.Germany seemed totally different today and Slava started strong but ran out of steam.Must say there doesn't seem much enthusiasm on inspeed.Hardly any posts on Berlin all week! Do think that Netherlands could have given Holstein a race or two.Like you say Tuinstra didn't seem fit yesterday and they were never going to win a medal Edited March 19, 2006 by iris123
