Any predictions for the wekend?

Overall Weekend Top 5

Zorn

Baseev

Aakko

Krasnikov

Loumpov

World Champion:

Krasnikov

2nd Baseev

3rd Zorn

Nikolai Krasnikov will do enough to retain his Championship, but won't let Baseev get the better of him. Franky loves Assen and I think a final Rostrum placing will be in order for him

Frany Zorn gets 5th his best show for some time in the WC.

Tuinstra had to withdraw from Sunday due to a kidney problem after his fall in the D Final Saturday.

Sorry for the late update but I had to get back to Amsterdam and do my report and pics.

My first ever visit to Assen, in fact my first 'live' Ice racing, and what can I say, absolutley incredible.

Fearless ? Reckless ? I'm not sure how to categorise these guys but they've got some bottle. The lines they take exiting the turns with those bails on their outside, borders on insanity !

Took my 300D and shot a few pics - very pleased with the outcome, I've posted a couple in my webshots.

Heat 2 in yesterdays meeting was breath taking - all 4 crossed the line together, after an epic 4 laps.

Only down side - too damn cold ! But as one dutch guy pointed out with a hint of sarcasm in his voice 'Vell it ish Icsh rracing you know ! Us Brits, we are light weights.

Loved it - going to Inzell next year.

Judging by the light on your pictures I would say you were half way around turn 2?

I was just along from you for part of Sunday's racing, with a Dutch photographer, and we were using flash for part of the afternoon.

I've taken close on 400+ pics which need editing and sorting so my pics should be up later in the week.

Glad there is another convert to Ice racing!

Thankyou Pammie - I'm absolutely made up by the Franky snap. That one is going to be enlarged to A3 and framed in the living room, alongside my forum winning Bydgoszcz crowd snap !

Only downside to the weekend, my performance in the sweepstake - both days my riders appeared in the D - there is losing and there is losing and I managed to pick wrong uns on both days - well at least I was consistent.

Where was Khomitsevich this year?

Also, were there only 4 GPs this years (i.e. 2 weekends of GP rounds).  No German rounds this year?

Planning to get back to watching some ice racing next year - I'm getting withdrawal symptons!!

All the best

Rob

My,my Rob where have you been all winter. There was a split in Russia, with a new federation formed that was recognised by the Russian sports council.Unfortunately for them the FIM still recognised the old one.Kamensk-Uralsk went with the new federation so their riders(Khomitesvitch and Ivanov brothers)were out of the FIM competitions.Didn't stop the new federation from trying to get them in though. They did turn up for qualification meetings but were not allowed to ride. Then before one of the semi's,a top official from the new federation barged into Lumpov's hotel room and tried to persuad him to drop out or retire so Vitali Khomitsevitch could take his place. The guy then with the aid of the Russian sports minister who is a friend and club colleague(Moscow Ice Hockey team)they tried to get the meeting called off!Not sure if anything happened at the Russian GP's.

Anyway, not a nice affair.Hope it all gets sorted out before next season.

Only the 4 GP's.Russia were due to hold 4,but had problems with venues(perhaps due to this strife). They wanted to change from Moscow(?) and Saransk,to holding all 4 in Saransk.FIM were not pleased.

Berlin is hosting the Team Championship this weekend, but is back with the GP's next year.
