Lee Herne Wins Wagga Wagga Long Track

Recommended Posts

Thanks to Anth (2XTV DUDE) for the following message :

"Lee Herne won the longtrack meeting held at Wagga Wagga as well on the weekend."

Sent Lee a txt yesterday congratulating him --good to know he is not retiring!! I stayed with Lee and Nicole when down under this winter and he travels to work on his road bike most days loving riding it --he even got Nicole a helmet for Xmas so she can have some outings with him whilst dad Phil has a beast of a BMW bike he uses and i know that Jaye was thinking of buying a road bike too.

Lee has lost 10 kilos (needed it too mate!! ) and said it was good to be back on a bike with the weight loss a big help. It was his first ride for months ( since Ashley's crash where Lee was also in the race ).

Great to see him back --and winning too!!

Looking forward to seeing his mum Debbie and sister Ella when they come to the UK in May.

OK, sorry about that .........

Brief report of Saturday's long track meeting is hereunder.

Overall plenty of close, exciting racing, not a huge crowd - plenty else on in

Wagga on the weekend and there was light rain during the afternoon.

Lee Herne became the fifth different winner in as many years when he won the

final of the long track slider class at the 2006 Riverina Long Track Cup at the

Wagga Wagga Showground on February 25.

Five riders always stood out and they turned on some great action through the

three rounds of heats and final.

Cory Gathercole (1,1,2) was top qualifier, despite losing to Daniel Mason

(2,3,1) while Herne (2,2,1) and Jason Stewart (3,1,2) were the other stand-outs

going into the final. Unfortunately defending champion Luke Gough (1,2) damaged

his bike in a starting line scrimmage in the third round and Anthony Dall (4,3)

was similarly affected and neither were able to contest the final.

Herne set the pace in the final and seemed to have a real battle on his hands as

Gathercole loomed starting the last lap but the Mildura teenager could not carry

on with his impressive charge from fourth that put him ahead of Mason and

Stewart, while Matt Jones (5,5,3) , Daine Stevens (3,4,5), Quentan Byrne (6,5,4)

and Elliott Myers (6,6,4) were the other finishers.

Trevor Baker (1,1,2,1) took the honours in the classic slider class ahead of

first time visitor from Adelaide Seane Chapman (3,2,1,2), Chris Potts (2,3,3,4)

and Peter Drury (4,4,4,3).

Some names well known to speedway regulars had success in other classes on the

big program.

Luke Gough did have some consolation with a clean sweep of his three heats and

the final of the up to 450cc 4-stroke class, while Jamie Plumb beat Jason

Stewart for honours over the four rounds of the over 450cc 4-stroke class.

Tim Heffernan was placed second and involved in several of the best races as he

tried, unsuccessfully, to lower the colours of Darren Herrick in the 250 cc

2-stroke class. Herrick also cleaned up in the 500cc FTX class.

The Harley / Twin Cylinder class was again exciting with Rodney Anderson edging

out Anthony Davies and Jack Stevens.

Tom Armstrong grabbed third in the 125cc class behind Josh Waters, who also won

the 250cc 4-stroke class.

The 2006 Australian Long Track Championship meeting will be held at the Wagga

Wagga Showground on November 25.

Thanks Trees.

Not had much time last few days to look into it as sorting out things for Trevor Harding , who is renting a house in the Midlands for the 2006 season which I sorted for him and they "moved in" last night late --- with a chinese , the table up and a mattress to sleep on!!

Looks like another hard day again today getting it all ready --then he can work on finishing a bike for the Kings Lynn practice and press day on Friday--back to work for young Mr Harding!!

Hope they've had time to build the bike in between throwing snowballs!!

Snow has only come this morning here!! Trev was zooming off to Boycey's in Southampton last night to pick up an engine whilst Big Trev took the hire van back to Heathrow and picked up a car --so it was a late night for both I am sure and Trev had to be up bright and early this morning to meet up with his team mates at KL today whilst dad finishes the bikes in readiness for the Stars P&P tomorrow.

Trev's only been here a matter of hours and has already picked up a cold!! You should feel the temperature in the house --the CH is on full blast and the two gas fires !!!

Amazingly yesterday when we driving back from Ikea and Curry's with all the stuff they had bought for the house we saw a certain Mr Topinka driving the other way and rang him !! He was up at GTS picking up his kevlars and was also shocked to know we had been so close!! Small world isn't it!!
