Bomber
A couple of years ago, I started a Website about the Romford Bombers. Unfortunately, I had to neglect the site for a while but I have recently extensively updated it, with more pictures and information about the West Ham Bombers. For those interested, the site can be seen here: Romford Bombers I am seeking assistance in adding more to the website and would like to hear from anyone who may be able to assist. If you have any old Bombers photo's (ANYTHING not already on the website and especially non-Official photo's) or memorabilia that can be scanned or photographed for inclusion on the website, please contact me through the email link on the website. I'd especially like to find portrait photo's of Adrian Baker, Bruce Edgar, Ron Edwards, Clark Facey, Mike Holt and Brian Read - even the small "thumbnail" photo's that appeared in programmes would be fine. I'd also like to do a "Where are they now" section so, if you know what happened to any of the Bombers riders after the closure of Romford/West Ham - or if you ARE an ex-Bombers rider! - again I'd like to hear from you. Finally, if you are able to provide details of the West Ham Bombers scorers or full heat details for the away matches against Canterbury (25/3/72) and Sunderland (30/4/72) please get in touch! Thanks in anticipation!
Deano
Hi bomber, I came across your website while searching the web one afternoon, very interesting too. I mailed speedwayplus to get it added to their links page, seemed a shame not to share such a valuable piece of speedway history.
25yearfan
Yes I remember looking at the Romford Bombers website a while back. I remember the circumstances behind their 1971 closure. - One moron who complained enough they shut down the Brooklands stadium speedway and aparently he moved soon after! Tragic when crowds were huge. I've been past the what looks like very smart Romford greyhound stadium many times on the Norwich-London Liverpool St line. I've always wondered if anyones tryed to revive the Bombers team there. Surely being within a stones throw of the busy London - Norwich train line 2.5 hours of speedway once a week wouldn't cause to much of a kerfuffle? Romford Bombers could still be a successfull speedway outfit here!

There is racing every Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday evening, plus housing on 3 sides. Forget it, It'll never happen. Though living near the busy Norwich - Liverpool St trainline would surely provide much more of a nuisance than 25, 2 hour speedway meetings a year? I think speedway authorities need to research and find methods/structures/barriers of noise prevention. If a way of totally eliminating noise leving the stadium then a whole load of stadiums would become possibilities to speedway. I think Romford Bombers racing at the dog track would be well supported! 25yearfan
Find a way of totally eliminating any noise leaving the stadium area was what I meant to say. Ipswich Witches top two heatleaders in 1971 John 'tiger' Louis and Tony 'shrimp' Davey are the now will be forever track record holders of Romfords now defunct and built over Brooklands Stadium circuit!
