It was Johnnie Faafeng who rode for Glasgow around 1966/67.

He was killed in a car crash, and I remember the story doing the rounds that he had been a bit of nutter who used to use a brick on the accelerator when driving on the motorways.

SCB

He was a lovely well mannered lad with a lovely girlfriend called Anu. Last time I heard they had a little one, sex unknown. Our chinchilla is named after him even though he is a she. :(

He was a brilliant gater and would not have been passed at Newport. My spies tell me that the track at Reading those days was deliberately slick to satisfy him. :)

He is... He has... a boy called Arttu (2yrs). I had a tape once of his early days in the UK on which he was questing for Newport. He rode a max if I'm not mistaken.

Olli Tyravainen... LOL! Tyrväinen would do better.

Veijo Tuoriniemi was featured on speedway+ some time ago, when he made somebodys "nightmare team". That was a good laugh. He now has his own speedway business. He tune's motors for Antti Aakko and various finnish riders. He also imports Jawa and GM here.

We did a google on Rauli Mäkinen just last saturday, and found a thread of him here at BSF. Someone was saying: " Didn't speak a word of english, but always had a smile on his face." That's him. He didn't adapt too well to the british way of life. Because of the language problem, he ate his serials with orange juice... I thought that was hilarious...

Cant think of others. I know Toni Salmela was in the UK once with Kokko, but decided that it wasn't for him.

When Sheffield signed him, they announced in the Sheffield Star that we'd signed a Finnish internation called.......Laurie McKinnen

He went back to a meeting in Finland after a few weeks, we're still waiting for him to come back :D

Didn't the pre-war Dutch champion Gerrit Kops sign for Sheffield in late August 1939 but because of start of WW2 on September3 that year be deined his place at Owlerton?

If you can get him an average low enough, I'll call him and send him back for this season!

McKinnen sounds about right!
