Gemini
Actually Jemma is having Metacam every day prescribed by the vet last week and I've got to take her back on the 28th to see if there is any improvement. The worst thing is not being able to chase her ball as that's all she has ever been interested in when out walking, but I can't risk her running around now. I met someone last week whose dog had the same problems and he was giving him Ibrofuren (?) - one tablet in the morning and one at night. I know you can give animals some drugs intended for humans but I wouldn't dare do that. In fact I mentioned it to the vet and she said it could cause liver damage in a dog. Anyway, back to these rooms in Cardiff...... Edited February 21, 2006 by Gemini
MrwulfAndrew
Must be me then as I've always enjoyed Cardiff and think the racing has got better each year. The atmosphere has deteriorated a little though, mainly due to the music being quieter than it was for the first couple of years. PUMP UP THE VOLUME! It saves me from having my ears shringed for 12 months. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree with that. To be honest i thought the atmosphere was alive and well in 2005 the same as it was in any other year!. Fair enough you generally do get a better standard of racing at normal tracks but to drop cardiff from the gp would be a mistake.

We have been prescribing Metacam for years (my own dog had it until his arthritis got really bad then I put him on PLT, the bit of steroid seemed to help his wellbeing) A couple of weeks ago we had a dog who reacted to Metacam, so we now give out printed sheets to all our clients with dogs on any NSAID drugs, so if you notice any vomiting, diarhoea or passing of black sticky faeces speak to your Vet. TheCedarMan
I go every year and whilst it appears to be the general opinion it's getting worse you would not believe the amount of people who were in cardiff from friday lunchtime over the event last year, far more noticeable than previously. I live in newport but still book in from friday until sunday for the atmosphere and general fun weekend. Mind you we're in a party of twelve and meet at a restaurant from noon before hand and stay there all day, guess we make our own fun

Thanks for that information Hansfan. I've not noticed any reaction so far and no improvement either unfortunately. I was also sent a PM from someone on the forum saying her dog was on Metacam for 5 years and she developed a stomach ulcer and subsequently had to be put to sleep. That's rather worrying. Jemma is only 8 and I want to do what is best for her but I wouldn't like to think she's got to be on drugs for the rest of her life. Apologies to everyone else for straying off the topic, but Jemma is a regular visitor to Cardiff for the G.P. weekend and does stay in a hotel room. I go every year and whilst it appears to be the general opinion it's getting worse .... What's getting worse - the hotel situation or the G.P? I agree about hotel prices but that's just the way it goes. If you book a holiday during the school half-term or summer break it's always much more expensive than during term time. Same sort of thing. If you mean the G.P's are getting worse - I don't agree. The format is a lot better now and the racing. I've just transferred the 2005 video to DVD and I reckon it was the best one yet. Edited February 26, 2006 by Gemini
Addy
What's getting worse - <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gem It's unlikely I'll be on my travels until I get this uni stuff done & dusted Why not take her to a homeopath, and get those nutrients down her - she's a lovely girls and deserves the best xxx
Gemini
I don't know about nutrients! I'm trying to cut her weight down now she isn't galloping around all over the place. She has always been a bit fussy with food and I must have tried every dog food on the market, but for the past couple of years she really enjoys what she has and licks the bowl clean. A potted meat sandwich in the morning, a mixture of Iams, Bakers & tiny pieces of liver with some gravy (sorry AndyM - not home made!) in the evening. Yummy! Jay
I have booked 5 rooms at the Holiday Inn which i'll be cancelling any day due to people not wanting to go. I'm still hoping to go with Chivsy's party though fingers crossed.
Gemini
Hansfan sounds pretty desperate. Can you help him/her? It was Newport but at this late stage I suppose anything would be useful. http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=24582 Edited February 27, 2006 by Gemini
Chris-P
I thought i might add a couple of points to the thread,... unimportant as my points may be, here goes anyway..... Firstly on the comments made by someone about the Travel Inns and hotels,. and even guest houses having to make hay whilst the sun shines...... Doesnt their sun shine most the year round ?..im sure that ther are many many events held at the stadium during the year with sports and pop concerts etc etc, so surely the hotels all make thier money anyway,or do they put thier prices up and down like a brides knickers to coincide with the events ?, i guess they must do. We had a job sourcing a room to stay over for the grand prix, and were amazed at the seemingly inflated prices with hotel and guest house staff doing the sharp intake of breath thing that builders do, saying , " ahh, thats the speedway weekend, ittle cost ya"!!. But..... perseverance prevailed and we found a guest house just on one of the main roads close to the stadium,(within walking distance), and secured a double room with breakfast for £46.00 Bargain !, obviousely not expecting much in the way of luxurious surroundings, ... but still happy with the deal!. I do think its a little unfair that people are booking rooms and not intending to use them, but intending to cancell them at the last minute,we would have paid the Travel Inn, or Travel Lodge price if a room had been available, but they were all taken at the time. Next, someone commented on the crap quality of the racing last year.... Are you Bonkers ??. i recetently watced the event back on video, and it was just as exiting as actaully being there, i forgot that some of the racing was actually so good, as for a british rider not in contention, or whatever was said..... scotty nicholls came bloody close and was only scuppered by the hand of lady luck on a couple of occasions that sent him packing. law of averages says that things have got to change on that score, caus he certainly has the skill, determitation, and desire to win a grand prix, and what better place to do it than cardif!. This year we are traveling by train on the day, driving last year from leicester was a nightmare, some of the intended route was closed off, and some kind police man at a service station sent us the wrong way, just to add to the confusion/stress and delay !. So,...ill let the train do the thiinking about the route. walk to the digs from the station, and enjoy the whole event in the knowledge that i can go for a beer, a meal and then walk to the digs and fall into my bed, albeit possibly a lumpy one ! Viva Le Grand Prix.............. CUMMON SCOTTY, CUMMON MY SONNNNN !!!
shazzybird
Nice write up there and quite agree about the rooms, there is nothing worse than trying to get a room only to find everything booked solid since the last GP, then for one reason or another the rooms suddenly become vacant, a lot of the time is because people get greedy and book two or three rooms in the hope their friends "might" come along for the day/weekend only for them to decide against it. We paid £125.00 a night at the Holiday Inn one year (next year it was £150.00!!!)and I would happily pay that again, hotel right on the door step of the stadium, bar open til late, car park for the weekend and excellent company throughout. I don't get to as many meetings throughout the season as I'd like to for one reason or another my two breaks away from the kids are Cardiff and the VSRA which I enjoy to the maximum but if you have children with you Cardiff can be expensive (not that I'd know as that is MY weekend unless of course the little buggers say yes this year as the twins are 10 the day of Cardiff!! Little lad being a mad TRick fan and his last season he might just decide that could be his present for his birthday watching TRick possibly for the last time. WIll have to work some serious bribery out for this one!) My advice though is if you have never been to the "Cardiff Experience" get and do it before they stop it, it really is something quite special an atmosphere that is different to anything else I've ever experienced (except Wimbledon NLRC wayback of course that was always special for me ) for the last two years I've said "Nah not going this year Markies not riding or too expensive" but each time I've gone and loved it that little bit more than the time before and met more and more people it really is quite magical. I've been to Cardiff every year that it's been held so far, having once said that I'd never go to a GP. The first year was just me, Mr Bobbin' and two friends, then we took our daughter and then we persuaded the Outlaws to go as well. We now make a day of it, leaving Swindon really early in the morning, taking a picnic lunch and mother-in-law and said daughter spend hours just gazing into the pits, looking out for their favourtite riders (TRick and Tomasz). One year we were particularly lucky and got into the pits just after they had finished - our daughter got Tomasz's autograph and a photo of him, and he even shared his chocolates with us! The atmosphere gets better and better each year, but it has to be experienced to be enjoyed. Whilst watching it on telly and being able to listen to Havelock's commentary may be amusing, you can't beat the noise and spectacle. SCB
I tried staying away a couple of year ago. I failed on the day and ended up going You can't miss Cardiff, it's just not possible, unless you're either not a speedway fans or you're not human! Even my mum, the non-speedway fans who does not read this forum loves Cardiff GP day and mixing with the forum lot in the afternoon before seeing some speedway. Daddy Hammer
I have been to the last 3 GP's at cardiff having said i would never go to a GP. Although i am a speedway fan, a group of around 9 go not only for the speedway, but also for the weekend. I would agree with some of the comments about the standard of racing as a couple of years ago i had filled my programme in after the first bend and was only wrong twice. But last years racing i thought was actually good. As for the atmosphere, i have to agree that i have never seen anything with a better atmosphere than that produced at Cardiff, although as previously stated, it was a bit silly having a parade when you couldn't see the riders.
