Surprised to see sidecars on such a small track, but then it is pretty wide.

I would imagine that the racing would be close on such a small track (180 metres?)

Thanks for the photos, heard a lot about the track from the guys over for the junior titles. What is the inside pole measurement, i personally would like to make our track in adelaide wider and a little longer, so we can start running 200s.Also would like some dates when they become available.

Regards Darrell

Off topic, but I'm curious to know what kind of attendance do the top speedway meetings in AUS get? I assume they're the highest during the European off-season when all top Aussie riders comeback home?

No one publishes crowd figures over here so you will have to put up with my estimates. The 4 round Oz titles get the biggest crowds, over the last two years I would guess the crowds would be between 1000 and 3000 depending on the venue and the weather on the night. Gosford suffered a bit two years running on coolish nights with the threat of rain but Gillman (Adelaide), Mildura, and Newcastle have been quite full. Mildura one year was totally packed.

State titles and the national U21's would be next and again would vary. My guess would be between 500 to 1500 depending on the venue. For example Mildura always gets a reasonable crowd to the Victorian state titles which would be into 4 figures, if it's at Broadford there would be perhaps half the crowd (or less). Gillman for the SA state title would get close to 4 figures too. I should also mention the sidecar brigade, they have a very dedicated following and often get as many (or more) to comparable meetings.

Then there are the "other" meetings which again could vary greatly depending on who's riding and if there are any clashes with other motor sport (like sprint cars or motoX). I would suggest most of those crowds would be in the hundreds although I'm not sure about Pioneer Park in Ayr as they have apparently been going great guns this season. Perhaps WhoWasThatBerntPersson might be able to fill in the gap there. I haven't been to the new track in WA yet either.

Apart from Newcastle which is only used once a year for speedway there are no regular tracks with large covered grandstands with plenty of seating. Gosford has the stands built by the greyhound people but they aren't large and are only on the home straight, Mildura and Labrador have very small open stands and Gillman has a big grassy bank round most of the track. Broadford and Undera don't even have that much, basically its standing room only or bring your own fold up chair. Again I'm not sure of far Nth Qld as that's one place I badly need to get to.

Of course I live in hope for another Oz GP !!!

I believe that on Radio Fremantle they said there were 2,000 plus on the evening of the meeting at Pinjar Park on January 21 when Simon Stead, Johnno and the Hardings were taking part.

This was a very good turnout, especially as there was also a speedway meeting on at the Kwinana Motorplex (Aust. Late Model Championships) on the same night.

Trying to identify the riders --a few shots show Trevor Harding, Johnno, Daniel Harding and ??????

Who is ??????

Yeh your right in saying Johno (orange KTM) Simon Stead (blue and white) Trevor and Daniel Harding.

There's also Dave Cheshire, (on old Johno bike, Maxima purple)

Other riders in photos inc. girly riders Carly Gittus (white/purple) and another woman Denise (forgotton surname)

Pity only one photo of Carly as she came 2nd in the clubman event only beaten by ex-premier league rider Nigel Flatman

Other riders out there are Mark Jovic

Wish I had gone to race there now, got asked to and then got told not to bother by a certain Perth rider who told me it wouldnt be a decent meeting!

You mind be interested to know that Lee Redmond had a practice last week in Perth and will be racing at Gillman on 4th March in a view to racing the WA title at Bunbury end of March
