Premier Travel Inn Price Increase

Recommended Posts

Once again the great sporting fraternity are being ripped off, sorry and annoyed to learn that Travel Inns have put up their prices.

We as a nation have to learn to rebel and react against such blatant piracy, first write expressing your dismay to the head of sales and marketing [find out the name, and address personally], then be sure to book for next year , YES BOOK FOR NEXT YEAR, reserved by credit/debit card.

You simply then cancel this booking at the last minute, usually on the same day or day previous, result, booking chaos, with a potential of under booked hotels, sales projections blown sky high, and the perpetrators left holding the baby so to speak.

Finally as a "jesture" of good will write once again to the head of sales and marketing after the event, explaining your reasons for cancelling, and that you enjoyed your night at home, curry, bottle of wine and a good sleep to boot.

It probably wouldn't make a great deal of difference but a copy of your correspondence to BSI would draw it to their attention also.

And so some poor fan, who has desperately been trying to get a room but finds that all the hotels are fully booked, and wouldn't object to paying the prices, loses out just so that you can make a point. Hmm, okay.

Rabbit, yes it seems that there may be the poor speedway fan dotted about who would be willing to pay over the odds for a room, However look at it another way, if all hotels took the same stance without any reaction from potential paying patrons where would that leave the majority of fans singles, couples or families when they were planning their budget for any such event.

Consider this, if you had made reservations to go see, lets say, a major testimonial meeting, you have made the kids, friends and colleagues aware, you get nearer the time and find out the cost of the tickets have gone up 60/70/80%, the hotel rooms the same, the restaurant the same, where does that leave you.........except more out of pocket than you expected.

Yes i do understand the market forces criteria you used previously, but understand that if the market is not boyant, then the forces are not applicable, sometimes you have to prolong the golden goose if you wish to have many eggs for many breakfasts.

I think you will find that most Hotels/B & B's also put their prices up for the G.P. weekend. I know ours has gone up quite considerately every year since they realised there was a big demand for rooms. I don't even know how much it is this year until I get presented with the bill when we leave. I'd rather not know. :P

There has been invitation to treat, offer and acceptance.

Clealy express intention to create leagal relations.

So it doesn't matter that there hasn't been a consideration involved - the amount has been agreed and confirmed in writing.

Am I right? any more up to date law students out there?

As far as I'm aware, consideration still normally applies. My lecturers put a lot of emphasis on it.

The only two situations that it doesn't apply are waiver (but the hotel has not waived the need for you to pay) and promissory estoppel (but the hotel has not seemingly given up any of rights under the agreement, and it would be difficult to prove you had relied on this).

Also, in this situation, I'm not sure there is a totally binding contract. By advertising hotel rooms, this is usually an invitation to treat, to which you have made them an offer by booking. I'm sure they would argue there is no acceptance until money changes hands (Grainger v Gough 1896, Partridge v Crittenden 1968 etc etc), so they retain their rights of refusal.

But then, we'll see if I actually know what I'm talking about when my contract exam mark comes through
