holbeachfans
How many of you are aware that all Premier Travel Inns now have a policy of increasing their charges on event weekends to 77.95 per room. This even applies to rooms that have been previously booked. In my case that is 2 nights in Cardiff for the Grand Prix will now cost 77.95 per night instead of the 105 total that I have an E Mail quoting. I have spoken to the Travel Inn concerned and been told that they are only acting on instructions from head office. At that price I would at least expect breakfast included. Yet again speedway fans are being held to ransom by greedy companies. They know we will not cancel. Dont be fooled into thinking that if you are not in the centre of Cardiff you will not be affected as it seems all in the area are going to increase their prices to the premium rate. We have been to Cardiff every year since it started but it is now cheaper to go to a Grand Prix abroad than to go there. We will have to think hard about if we even bother to go next year. sjw ministerofport
I agree with what you say. We have also been to Cardiff each year. First some of the hotels would only let you book for two nights and now the cost is increasing every year, but what can you do.
Star Lady
They know we will not cancel. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They may be in for a shock then cos I'm certainly not paying for two nights at that price
rabbit
Afraid it's all about market forces. They now know it's a premium weekend and they can book out their hotels without even trying. For every fan that refuses to pay, is another 2 or 3 that will. It's no different anywhere and not just with hotels - concert tickets are the same - a finite resource means people will pay top dollar - in this case it's rooms - the same reason holiday prices are more expensive in the summer than in the winter. Prices drop when they want to encourage people to fill their rooms and the hotels would otherwise be empty. If there's a big demand for rooms, they'll up the price and their profits. You either want it or not and they know it. Supply and demand at it's best.

That's a good price though the Holiday Inn last year was 150.00!!!!! cram as many into the room as possible and split the price McDonalds do a good breakfast that's what I did
Mylor
Nice try Shazz. Problem is that as no money has changed hands, no contract has been made. Now if the hotel asked you to pay at the time of booking, as per Ryanair for instance, then Trading Standards would be interested.
Chivs
However is you have a quote and a letter(e-mail) confirming that price for that date - then that is what you should pay. Just tell them Watchdog have been informed - they jump through hoops then

There has been invitation to treat, offer and acceptance. Clealy express intention to create leagal relations. So it doesn't matter that there hasn't been a consideration involved - the amount has been agreed and confirmed in writing. Am I right? any more up to date law students out there? Midnight_Lady
Surely if it's in black and white in the email with the original price then the Premier Travel Inn cannot change their prices to that customer? If they can then surely that means whatever you have in writing from a company means diddly squat. I would challenge it Holbeachfans. Sandie
Taken from Premier travel Inn terms and conditions: Premier Travel Inn reserves the right to review its room prices from time to time. If you make a reservation more than one month in advance, the quoted room price may change before the date of your stay at Premier Travel Inn. Although Premier Travel Inn aims to inform you before it makes price increases, Premier Travel Inn reserves the right to charge the room price current on the arrival date or you may cancel the reservation without charge. Unfortunately it would appear you dont have a leg to stand on. Sorry
shirley1959
Whenever there is an event held at the Millennium Stadium, whether its sport or a concert, all the hotels in Cardiff increase their prices accordingly. The first year they probably didn't do it because speedway was relatively new to the area and the hotels probably didn't realise how many people would be attending. If you book a hotel in Cardiff for a weekend when there is no event being held at the Millennium Stadium the price is reasonable.
Joanne
I would have thought that the confirmation would be alright and you would pay the price on it. I was quoted a price in Bydgoszcz a few years ago just by email. I checked out of the hotel only to be given a bill much higher. Being Scottish I wouldn't accept it and showed them the email. They soon brought the price down
Star Lady
Hmmmm You'll do as your told m'lady <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I will not and you can't make me The four of us that have booked rooms at Cardiff Roath have decided that Premier Travel Inns can stick their rooms where the sun don't shine. We will stay at home and watch on Sky. As was said in the original post, if breakfast was included it wouldn't have been so bad and in all honesty the Roath Travel Inn last year was decidedly in need of upgrading. So BSIs loss is about 4 PL tracks gain as we will now have 2 short breaks instead following the Stars away travels Racing will probably be better anyway

one of clubs
Two weeks ago i booked a family room at what used to be called the Moat House on the outskirts of Cardiff. There is a bus stop 5 minutes walk away which we use to get the bus into Cardiff.I paid £88 which is really good value,so i rang the hotel direct to check they did indeed have my reservation. They did.Sorted. KevH
Is this not a case for trading standards. I'd have thought so too.......... I wouldn't accept it and showed them the email. They soon brought the price down But Joanne sounds more likely to get the required result.
Shortcrust
How many of you are aware that all Premier Travel Inns now have a policy of increasing their charges on event weekends to 77.95 per room. This even applies to rooms that have been previously booked. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Had my letter back in December telling me the price of my rooms booked at Cardiff East had increased to £72.95 per room. I took the liberty of booking them as soon as the GP date was released not even knowing at the time if I was going to bother going to the GP, and I think at the time the rooms were approx £50. As soon as I got the letter, I cancelled immediately. Decided I would rather sit in the comfort of my own home and watch GP than pay that price!! I suppose as has been said previously, you only need to guarantee the booking with a credit card, therefore Travel Inn feel they have every right to increase the prices as they see fit.
