Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the updates site? If so, could you please either leave a message here or send me an email or pm.

Thanks

Tiny I think that they announced a 4 pm start - but that seems a little late.

Hope it stops raining by then...

How far away is the track form Old Trafford?

It would take you a while to drive from Old Trafford round to Belle Vue, particularly since you'd probably go through the City centre. Probably half an hour at least. I used to do that in the old Hyde Road days - watch the cricket at Old Trafford then drive over to Belle Vue on Saturday evenings. Perfect! :D

BTW, I'm very sorry not to be there for Smudger's testamonial, though I'll be there in spirit. Please give Andy a cheer from me - a fan who followed his career since he was 15! :approve:

I see Crumpie passed Trav on the last bend in this testimonial meeting.

Say what you like about Jason - which other top star (World Champion!) would put himself out in a Testimonial Meeting like that?

Brilliant Crumpie - you are a credit to the sport and I'm certain Smudge appreciated your efforts.

Enjoyable day out today. Weather held off and there was some good racing for a testimonial meeting. Not a bad crowd either. Shame quite a few riders pulled out last minute, Billy Hamill rung up saying he had broke down on the motorway and was replaced by John Oliver, Henka Gustafsson was replaced by Trevor Harding, Charlie Gjedde was replaced by Stuart Robson and Gary Havelock was replaced by Tai Woffinden. Strange that Greg Hancock wasn't in the programme but he was advertised and his van was in the pits. Also Sophie Blake didn't turn up.

Before hand there was a trials rider doing jumps and wheelies over tyres on the centre green. And spread throughout the meeting were the veteran riders on thier jap bikes.

The programme was superb, it was very similar to the playoff programme from last year. Top quality enough to read for a week and lots of photos, some quite funny from Andy's past. Definatly one to get for the programme collectors.

The track was in great condition, plenty of dirt and very grippy for 3 quarters of the meeting and riders such as Johnston and Tomicek really struggled but it slickened off towards the end and they did a lot better.

Simon Stead was definatly the best rider today, nobody could touch him. Jason Crump wasn't quite his usual self, he wasn't gating really and had to do quite a few passes from the back including passing McGowan on the last bend of the final for second. James Wright was very good, beat Crump in his first ride, he's really gating a lot better now.
