Guest Sir Lunchalot
To the "why not him" questions I think you need look no further than $$$$$ 's. Throw in the British based riders perhaps wanting a rest and it starts to make sense for some people not to ride. Take Johnno for example. First he would have to get himself, bikes and mechanic from Perth to Adelaide (about 1670 miles) for the Friday 1st round. Probably allow two huge days driving or three easy ones to get there if he chose to drive or 2 hours by air with airfares of perhaps $250 a person one way. Stay in Adelaide for (say) three days. Then off to Mildura (about 250 miles). Stay there for (say) three days. 2nd round on Sunday. Then Gosford here we come. Another 665 miles and something like 13 or 14 hours on the road if you are good and can split driving. Stay there another two or three days with the meeting on Thursday. Might even stay there a few days longer and do Newcastle & back on the day of the meeting. Newcastle is fine as its just up the road about 60 miles away for the final round on Saturday. Then back home to Perth. A mere 2450 miles to be negotiated. Five'ish days on the road or over three hours on a plane. Airfare of perhaps $350 a person one way and you still need to get to Sydney to catch the plane. Add the petrol or airfares up for that lot, add in some accomodation for him and a mechanic assuming that they can't always stay for free with other riders & friends, new tyre each meeting, bike fuel & oil, any repairs needed, living expenses while away and not to mention the physical wear and tear on the human body with all that travel. I'm not sure what the prizemoney is like but I can't see it covering those sorts of costs and I can well see why he's not nominating again. The young kids on the way up who live on the east coast are more willing to do it but even so it's still a big ask financially. Oz sure is a big place. Guest Sir Lunchalot
Must admit thats more than I thought Anth. I wonder where the break even point is, eg last year Leigh Adams would have made money (4 x $4000) but Chris Ferguson would have lost money (4 x 400) Thanks for that. whowasthatberntpersson
I see some debate regarding riders who are in the qualifier who possibly should be seeded directly to the main event. It is interesting to see a relatively unknown Pole in the main event ahead of someone like Troy Batchelor....can't say I understand that particular idea... Oh and wouldn't it be fantastic to see all the top Aussies in that lineup...maybe one day eh?
speedway_dan
Nice to see told Steady representing his country, would be nice to see him give the big licks to our Aussie freinds on a few occasions in their own back yard.
