tommy
Few days after the debate over foreign riders reached its climax, PZM lifted the limit on foreign riders (that includes non-EU also!) in all 3 divisions. Now this doesn't mean will see a flood of riders from GB, S and DK signing in Poland. The promoters will most likely create an informal agreement to limit line-up to two foreign riders. My concern is that an informal agreement won't last too long and some of these greedy promoters will be tempted to break the rules. I'm all for opening up the market, but it should be done gradually. Subedei
I believe that, a few years down the line, Polish speedway will regret this decision.
iris123
Share your concerns tommy, but at least it will mean some of the German riders won't have to get married to Polish girlfriends so quickly
Mateusz
I'm all for opening up the market, but it should be done gradually. Yeah or it should have been established before the end of the 2005 season when no one had started building teams for 2006 yet. Now, when some teams like Bydgoszcz or Tarnow have already almost built up their line-ups it's a bit unserious...
Subedei
Just because a "free-for-all" has been established, doesn't mean it has to happen. Hopefully, some clubs, maybe Bydgoszcz and Tarnow, will see the sense in continuing to rely on their own development of talent.
AndyM
Freedom of choice must be accompanied by responsibility, something our promoters have rarely twigged. Will Polish clubs show discipline and restraint? If not, they may need to be regulated once again - as indeed do our promoters for the same reason. Subedei
As I've said all along, it all depended on the clubs remaining disciplined. But now a couple of clubs have broken ranks, presumably in search of quick and easy success. If they go too far, Polish speedway could suffer in the future. British short-termism comes to Poland. Mateusz
Maybe we'll come back to hated in the past KSM (CMA for teams)? As I remember it was about 45 for a team when they lift it (in 2003?). Of course not from the next year but in 2007..? I don't believe in promoters' moderation. If they have big money they'll make dream teams. Having a totally open market where you can sign any one you want the KSM could be an only restriction to prevent us from watching matches where "a dream team" smashes "a less rich team" 70:20... Subedei
Just looking at the team building on sportowefakty.pl for the Ekstra Liga, Bydgoszcz have 4 juniors for next season, Gdansk 4 juniors for next season and Rzeszow 5 juniors for next season. You have to fear for the future of the juniors if teams are going to be allowed to sign foreign riders at will.
tommy
More changes...2006 season will be the first for a professional speedway league (called ZLZ)as all the teams will transform into joint-stock companies and by 2007 the league will expand to 10 teams. Should have more details tomorrow.

PolskiZuzel
I believe that, a few years down the line, Polish speedway will regret this decision. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Â In my understanding , once Poland joined the EU, the opening of the Polish clubs to the foreign 'invasion' was bound to happened. Â Polish speedway may come to regret it, but the decision had been taken elsewhere. And not today, but sometime in the past.
AndyM
We've debated this at length in relation to the UK. They can't legally prevent it, but nobody can compel those promoters to employ foreign riders if they don't want to.
tommy
Looks like it'll be a free-for-all. Last night I watched a report on the new rules in Polish speedway, it included an interview with a promoter from Bydgoszcz who said there won't be any informal agreements between all promoters regarding foreign riders. Â At least he was being honest, cause most folks involved in speedway here have the same opinion. Edited November 26, 2005 by tommy
Mateusz
No informal agreement but maybe they'll make a formal agreement that a club can only sign 2 GP riders. Polish riders (Gollob, PePe and Hampel) are of course included. That's what I've read on local newspapers.
tommy
In the words of the great Ozzy Osbourne (w/ Black Sabbath), "...we're going through changes..." ...and here's a BRIEF list of the most important changes made official by PZM (in no particualr order). Â Â 1.Rider (no matter what nationality and citizenship) is required to sign a contract by Jan.31st 2006 to represent a club in 2006 season. Â 2.There is no limit on the number of signed foreign riders by a club. Therefore the limit rule for a min.CMA required by a foreign rider is now void (last season Lindback and J.B. Jensen were under the min. limit) Â 3.GP riders from seeded from 1-15 (both domestic and foreign) can ONLY sign with an Ekstraliga team. Â 4.Foreign riders can ride in all meeting sanctioned by PZM - excluding: Polish Individual Championship, P.I.Junior.Ch.,Golden Helmet as those meeting will become a part of the elimination process for the SGP 2007. Â 5.No limit on foreign riders in Ekstraliga Championships, 1st Div,2nd Div., Polish pairs championships(senior & junior), Polish Junior Team Championships. One exception is E-liga team can't have more than 2 GP riders (seeded 1-15 in SGP) lined-up in a meeting. Â 6.Meetings will be in 2 phases. Regular season and play-offs. After regular season, league will be divided into 2 groups of 4 teams: teams 1 - 4 and teams 5 - 8. All points earned in regular season will count in the play-offs. Meetings in 2nd div. won't have play-offs. Bonus points will be awarded same as previous season. Â 7.Starting numbers 6 & 7 and 14 & 15 can only be assigned to junior riders. Teams can also have a reserve rider under starting number 8 & 16 (riders up to 23 years old). Riders numbered 7 & 15 will have an extra compulsory heat in the place of riders 6 & 14. Â Â Â Calendar for 2006 season will be made official on Dec.9th. Â Â Â Hope the rules are clear , as I typed them out in a hurry. any questions or comments let me know. Mateusz
Calendar for 2006 season will be made official on Dec.9th. And unoffcial version (not aproved by PZM) should be released this Friday.
Hazzman
So in E-Liga, no Rickardsson, Nicholls and Gollob together at Tarnow according to Rule 5.
