Guest cheetahhawk
I had to go to my doctors surgery to see the practise nurse the other day and was wearing my Oxford Cheetahs fleece jacket and this old chap started talking to me about speedway and longtrack racing.(He had spotted my Cheetahs badge on my fleece) I think he said his name was Bill Savage. (there were some blooming screaming kids in there at the time so I had a job to hear what he was saying, I am getting very deaf these days. ) He told me he used to ride in the days of the Wembley Lions and rode against Jack Parker,Split Waterman and Bill Kitchen. He said that although he rode speedway he mainly rode on the longtracks and grass tracks in France. I think I have heard the name before but before we could have any further discussion he was called in to see the nurse and when he came out it was my turn to see the nurse so we couldn't carry on chatting. Does anyone ,like Norbold perhaps, have any further information on this old timer? It would be nice to find out a bit more about his career. Guest cheetahhawk
er...sorry...never heard of Bill Savage. I'll see what I can find out though, unless anyone else knows. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh dear I must be even more deaf than I thought I was. I went to see the nurse again today and saw my friendly old timer again. I asked him what his name was and he said that he was never famous but his name is Jack Surridge. Shows what screaming kids do to someone who can't quite hear properly. So Norbold do you think you may have any info on Jack at all ? He said he rode mainly in the mid fifties over in France on long and grass tracks. He also told me he had brought engines and parts of bikes from Alf Hagon. norbold
Sorry, the name still doesn't ring a bell, but then if he rode mainly in France on grasstrack and longtrack, I don't suppose it would. You could always ask Alf Hagon if he remembers him...
