Keittiöpiste were crowned as the finnish league champions today at Seinäjoki. They only needed to win Seinäjoki, they were ahead in heta points so much that it would have been enough. And they did it.

A couple of very brave and gutsy rides by Juha Mäkelä and Juha Hautamäki made the difference. First Mäkelä beat Kaj Laukkanen from the tapes in heat seven, and was later able to defend his points against Tomi Reima in heat 11. The move that practicly decided the championship was made by Hautamäki in heat 16, when he was outgated by Eriksson. Hautamäki wasn't that far off in the middle of the first bend, and exiting the corner he was on the outside of Eriksson. Instead of shutting the throttle he dived through a gap that wasn't there between Eriksson and the fence, and gave Keittiöpiste a 2 point lead to go with in the deciding heats. Then Kenny Olsson beat Eriksson in heat 17, and Hautamäki needed just one point from heat 18.

Kim Jansson was the best rider of the weekend, scored 14 from 5 today.

There's been a camera crew at the league round in Pori in early May, Kauhajoki Speedway in June, Nordic Longtrack a few weeks ago, the finnish final in July... Maybe a couple of more?

The Pori one was done by students, and they didn't have the time to make it ready before the holiday's. They're back on it now I believe. The others have been by this fellow Aleksi Mäkinen, who's trying to keep a finnish website with all kind of info www.speedway.fi

That very website has the here: http://www.speedway.fi/kauppa.php where you can buy a steelshoe to wear around your neck. They are made by Jyri Palomäki, a TOP6 rider in Finland who's gonna become a goldsmith in a year.

When the DVD's are out, I'll post about it.

Cheers F-S-P for all the info.

Also many thanks for all your postings from Finland throughout the season which have been excellent and invaluable to anyone interested in Suomi Speedway :)

No worries!

There's a couple of individual meetings to go, Seinäjoki speedway today and Kemppi speedway tomorrow. Then I'll take a couple of weeks break from speedway and concentrate on finding a job.

Next year I hope to keep it up, possibly get a bit faster with theposting if I get my hands on some portable gadgets! :approve:

Kaj Laukkanen won the Seinäjoki speedway last saturday and Tomi Reima took home the welding machine from the Kemppi speedway last sunday. Only 14 riders at Seinäjoki and 9 at Lahti.

Both of these meetings have traditions going back to the late seventies, and it's imnportant that the tradition doesn't break. Kemppi is a local factory at Lahti, and has always sponsored the winner with a brand new welding machine.

Our very own Track Racing Parliament will be held on the 19th of November. That's when next year's dates for the qualifiers and finals here in Finland will be announced. On the same day there will be a meeting discussing next year's league speedway. Both of these are annual events with the league meetings taking place 2-4 times a year. But that's when I (or anyone except the "big man") will know more about the dates and nominations for 2007. That info will be given to everyone over here on a thread called... tada-da-dadda-daa!!!

Finnish News for 2007!!! :approve:

This is still this year though, and I heard on tuesday that Kaj Laukkanen has said in his home town newspaper that he's moving to England next year with his newly wed wife. And that is to ride speedway. So there is still some hope yet in Laukkanen.
