SteveEvans
Round 2 of the inaugral West Coast Speedway League had two close contests. The home based Victorville Vikings beat the Sacramento Silver Machine 49-41, The Silver Machine coming back from 16 down to rally in the last 5 heats, though heat 14 5-1 against cost them any chnace of a remarkable come back win. Highlight of the night was Chris Kerr shepherding home Matt Browne for a 5-1 in heat 15. He put his knowledge from the Dream Team tour into effecr as he slowed the race down, held off the charge of Neil Facchini. It looked like vintage Sudden Sam! Kerr also scored a paid maximum in the process. Orange County Eagles narrowly edged out the LA Aces 46-43. Buck Blair dropped just one point for the Aces, but there wasn't quite enough support there to pull of the win. Skyler Greyson scored 13 for the Eagles, getting to grips with the track after just four points first time up. Scorers: Aces 43 (Blair 14, R Sauer 9, Dzaidus Jnr 8+2, B Sauer 4, Hull 4, Kistler 3, DeFries 1+1). Eagles 46 (Greyson 13, Harmatiuk 10, Perkins 9, Valdez 6, Starr 4, Buffington 3, Martinez 2). VIkings 49 (Wells 9+2, N Facchini 9+1, Hiles 8, D Facchini 7, Gomez 6+2, Zellner 5+2, Lyons 5+1) Silver Machine 41 (Kerr 13+2, Brownse 12, Martynse 6+1, Mabry 3, Sincavage 3, Hernandez 2, Metoyer 1. League Table: VIKINGS 2 0 0 107 73 4 SILVER M 1 0 1 93 84 2 EAGLES 1 0 1 81 99 2 ACES 0 0 2 76 101 0 Round 3 is in 2 weeks. Silver Machine face Eagles, the winner goes to the final with Victorville. Aces racing for pride take on the Vikings. This is a really successful project - great racing, good crowd support and most of all riders, managers, fans, officials working togther and having fun! Grass roots speedway at its finest. It's going to be a hard choice on who to take to England next spring for Dream Team 2.
greyhoundp
My thoughts after talking to various people over some months almost everyone says where are the next generation of Americans, after H&H we have, Yarrow,Janniro,Fisher then who?the Dream Team ,its looks to me the American Individual system was/is almost dead. What they have in Baseball,American Football, etc is City Teams sponsored by big business if only America could get 10 or 12 Teams from various areas I believe it could really take off,but to do this one has to start somewhere and this is what the guys are trying to do. What the next step could be is a team of riders from over here of say 14, visiting the USA annually riding as guests for various Teams then at the end of the series we could have International matches official or otherwise riding against the Yanks, this i believe would put bums on seats. I believe there would be no lack of riders willing to go to America,or sponsors in America,Obviously this would be in our close season. Be interesting to hear peoples thoughts on something along these lines. Edited October 24, 2005 by greyhoundp
SteveEvans
The paln with this league to expand it in 2006 so that each team has a home track. We won't be racing week in week out as the individual / handicap format in the USA is the most popularw ith the fans, rather, we will just complement this. Big corporate backing would take speedway to a higher level here, but the sport has descended so far down it needs to be made better bit by bit. The league, a possible modernised Costa Mesa next year, the track at the Grand continuing, Fast Fridays, and more young riders si the formula. We would welcome any European tour here. It's warm (compared to UK) all yaer round here.

Main Man
Thanks for the posting of the results Steve. Was wondering how it all went as I sat doing nothing on the beach in Tenerife!! Great to see Chris Kerr get honourable mention for his team riding and his paid max --nice one mate!! Good to see Shaun Harmatiuk back in the points too with 10 -- hopefully no more concussions !! Look forward to the next rounds. Best wishes to all my friends Stateside.
