Les Beaumont

Damn!! Beaten to it, if you are referring to the Leicester photo then that is the answer I had decided on after trawling through my 3 Leicester books, written by Alan Jones, the latest one "The Lions Roar" just published if anyone is interested. My second choice was Alf Parker.

Lionheart.......Ivor Brown passed away a few months ago.

Pleased I was wrong if that's the prize.

I'm just trying to get rid of them.

No correct guesses for the other two behind Stan Stevens so far; though Albert Steptoe is close.

P.s. At the "do" on Sunday, Les Beaumont showed me a programme of the meeting at Norwich when he equalled the track record. Strangely enough it was during the George Formby Trophy meeting which we've discussed on here. With one ride each to go, Les and Arthur Forrest were unbeaten. In the race where they met, Les unfortunately "conked" as it says in his programme, leaving the Black Prince to win with a maximum.

So whereabouts is he living these days Norbold? Presumably somewhere in the Norfolk area being as he never gets to any of the Leicester reunions?

I'm feeling quite pleased with myself actually because I chose him purely by looking at a 40/50? year old photo and trying to imagine what he would look like today. Knowing my reputation with faces I think I did quite well. :P

I hate coconut so I don't mind losing.

He lives in Newmarket.

He told me he hasn't been to any speedway meeting, reunion or anything to do with speedway for about 20 years, but, apparently, he ran in to Pam and Trevor Hedge at a race meeting in Newmarket and they invited him to the dinner on Sunday.

It could be Phil Malpass
