Subedei
That's pretty good going, Subedei. Its quite a hill up to the stadium. Hope you enjoy your stay in Prague. I'm not sure the old Mongol legs will forgive me. Actually, once you get past the castle it's not such a bad walk. Prague is as glorious as ever. Today is a public holiday in the Czech Republic to remember an event in 1989 that led to the fall of Gustav Husak's communists. The weather is okay, although there's a possibility of snow in the next couple of days.

KevH
From the starting point of my hotel (Hotel Cloister Inn - Joanne knows it), it took me 43 minutes to reach the stadion u Markety. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does that include the 8 minutes it takes to walk from the furthest room to the reception in the hotel? Subedei
Does that include the 8 minutes it takes to walk from the furthest room to the reception in the hotel? It is a bit of a hike to get to "Part 1" of the hotel. Anyway, snowed last night and snowing now in Prague.
KevH
If it snows in Prague like it rains, you'll be up to your knees in it in an hour or two.
billy neath
I can name a couple of hotels which i think are situated in old town of Prague that would be the Intercontintental Hotel and the Express by Holiday Inn, there is also a Holiday Inn which is about 1 mile or so from old town and the is a Crowne Plaza which is about 5KM from old town. If you are intrested you can have a look on the website www.ichotelsgroup.com
Subedei
The Holiday Inn Express is, in fact, in the New Town. In fact, it's just off Wenceslas Square, opposite the main train station. The Holiday Inn is adjacent to the Prague Congress Centre, formerly known as the Palace of Culture. That is just beyond Prague's second castle, Vysehrad. The Crowne Plaza is situated about a mile or so from Prague Castle in a mainly residential district. But it is in Prague's finest socialist-realist building - a wonderful Stalinist "wedding cake" skyscraper. The Intercontinental Hotel is located in the Old Town on the banks of the Vltava in the former Jewish Ghetto. You can see it from the Old-New Synagogue. Bargain price, especially over the Bank Holiday weekend There is 5 of us going and am thinking about getting a couple of studio apartments? Saw some mentioned earlier, any recommendations? Tac Sub
I got a £70 flight from Leeds/Bradford on the Thursday morning, so i shall have most of the Thursday in Prague as well. Staying in the U Tri Korunek again. Lots of cheap bars around this hotel.
dirtytrick
It's a bit of a minefield trying to get a good hotel in Prague but I can recommend a few. For a central location near the Powder Tower try the K+K Central, it's an awesome hotel with a fantastic breakfast including champagne, and about a ten minute walk to Charles Bridge. It's on the pricey side though, but the place to go if you want to treat yourself. Couldn't fault it last year. Booked through Expedia. Two years ago we stayed in the Carlton Hotel ( formerly The Bristol ), this is also a fantastic hotel and spottless clean with really tasteful and roomy accomodation. You can walk into town from the hotel but as it's in Zizov it takes abut 25mins. There is a tram outside the hotel so thats the best option. The bars and food here are very cheap. Booked through Hotelconnect. Next year we are in the Bellagio, five minutes from the old town in the Jewish Quarter. Got a very good deal ( almost 50% cheaper in some cases) for a group booking and the company was extremey helpful (http://www.marys.cz/). They also do very cheap apartments too. Always use Tripadvisor.com for the best lowdown on your hotel, don't rely on the hotels' own blurb!
dirtytrick
EASYJET flights on sale from today for Gatwick to Prague. Snapped mine up this morning for 86 quid all in, not bad for a bank holiday weekend. Prices going up all the time so hurry hurry hurry!
