Graham
Regarding last week's Eastbourne v Poole challenge match where a new scoring sytem was tried out, was this a revival of the system Boston used a couple of times during the 1979 season or was it something different? Looking at the 1980 yearbook I noticed the Barracudas won one match (v Peterborough) 3-2 and drew another (v Nottingham) 2-2. One of Cyril Crane's ideas perhaps? Would be grateful for any memories or information about these two meetings. Graham.
norbold
Graham, have a look at page 32 of the 1980 Yearbook. The idea was dreamt up by Gordon Parkins. "Instead of having teams fighting for race points from each of the thirteen heats he split a 20-heat programme into five separate formulae - awarding one match point to the winning side..." The formula was used three times: Boston 3 Peterborough 2; Boston 2 Nottingham 2; Boston 2 Cradley Heath 2.
