With all due respect Sube - and ignoring Anton and Hampel as they're already nominated - the sum of the other riders you've added would water down the GP series significantly. I want to see the World's top 16 riders, and those aren't it I'm afraid - by a long shot. At least yet - IMO. Whatever you think about the merits of Andersen, Sullivan (fully fit, not the pale shadow of his former self from this season which i think will see him dropped in '06), Nicholls and Richardson, they are in the top 16 in the world and so should be in the series. The top 8 cutoff is simply that - a cutoff. Personally I think it should be top 12 and then 3 nominated plus a wildcard but hey, you can't have it all. Maybe one or two out of your 5 might get in next year, but they none of them at present have any claim over the two Brits on current form. Think even Holta or PK would be able to have more right to a place than some of those at present.

But unless they're given a chance they're never going to prove themselves. Who'd have said Hampel was worth a go when he was entered after winning the world under-21? But he proved he was worth it by automatically qualifying. And so would a few of those I list. Give them a go and let them prove themselves. At the minute it's "as you were". The top 8 are more or less inviolate, because those beneath them in the circus aren't good enough to trouble them.

The circus needs new blood and that's what I'm proposing with my "picks".

The status quo doesn't work. Of those so far named, only Hampel has a realistic chance of penetrating the top 8. And he'd have been there, but for injury.

I'm all for giving youngsters a chance - but all at once? Think you'll see one or two of those you've named (although not Lukas much as I would love to see him back at the top) in the series but the rest will have to wait - and why should we water it down just to give those who wouldn't ordinarily get in a place? You say of those named so far only Hampel has a chance to get into the top 8 - do you really think those you've mentioned would either?

I meant all the leagues combined, not just one set of league averages.

Well i've proved you wrong then.He isn't in the top 20 in Poland and he only makes the Swedish top 16,just,because at least one of the top riders doesn't ride there.Come to think of it,if there wasn't a limit on foreigners in Poland where would he be then B)

Hes my lowdown-

Richardson is capable of being a Top 15 World rider (Bydgoszcz and World Cup) but he has no proved it in other Gps looking out of depth. He always has excuses when losing, his form in the leagues has been good enough, I never support the idea of picking riders for commercial reasons.

Nicholls however though his GP form has been average, his form in Sweden, Poland and Britain has been good and his performaces in continetal open meetings as been just as good (Golden Gala). Thereby Nicholls deserves another wild card because he has a good season. Richardson however is season apart from two bright sparks as not been very good.

Everyone knows we should have only one Brit in it because the back-up isnt good enough. Certain riders deserve a shot, I dont think Kolodziej and Kasprzak are quite ready, KK maybe but Kolodziej despite being Polish Championship doesnt show consitent form across the world.

Lindback deserves another chance despite raw, hes another character to the circus. Hes my two pence. Also, my overall riding feeling is Richardson doesnt have the bottle to become a world-beating rider (never puts his bike in the nasty places) but there's plenty of swedes, Poles and Danes who would be more than willing.

Overall, there is no point saying Cardiff's the big event, it reminds of a Khaki Election victory. If the rider doesnt perform generally, then he doesnt deserve a place. We can saying what about qualifying. Howabout having a great season in all three main leagues, doing well at the World Cup and becoming National Champion. Thats what we get you a spot.

He hasn't done so far so why should next season be any different

If that's the case, Loram would sell more tickets than either Richardson or Nicholls.

Without a doubt Sub, say what you like about Mark he puts butts on seats fans love him :approve:

So what was your point?Looks to me as if you were justifying Lee's position by pointing out how high in the averages he finished. If position in averages was any pointer Mr Adams would have finished how many times in the top 3 in the GP series? And if we correlated all the averages from the top leagues, would the riders have finished in the same positions as they did in the GP's?.I doubt it.

I do indeed feel that Lee should be included, and the only reference point I had to hand, as I have already explained, was the EL averages. However I'm not for a secopnd suggesting that the selection process for the grand Prix series should be based on those averages am I?! I'm not in a position to use figures from any other nations league to "justify" Lee's inclusion, and wouldn't begin to attempt to - as I stated previously my knowledge of foreign racing is practically non-existant!

At no point have I suggested that the british league has any kind of superiority, or that our averages should be used for the selection process.

*edit* have just re-read my original post again and I have to say I can't for the life of me see where you think I have implied that the Elite averages should have any bearing on anything!

Lets repeat myself then. What was the point of the post?.Why make a point of showing how high in the Elite averages he is?Was it not to say that on this he deserves a place in the GP's?

We are just going round in circles here.

Yes, I do feel that Lee should be included. As I have explained twice now the only reference point I had to back this up was indeed the Elite League averages. I at no stage said that the selection for the GP's should be based on these though - I simply used it as a guide to Lee's general form in comparison with others who are definately in.

No-one told me that in order to post to this thread you needed to have a thorough knowledge of speedway around the world! :(

You would have thought that when discussing who should be in the series to decide the World Champ that such knowledge would be the minimum requirement. We ain't trying to find the line up for the Elite league riders championship :D:P

Edit:

Also considering there isn't an Elite league track on the GP circuit, but Polish and Swedish league tracks it might be more important to look at form there!
