father jack
I dont expect this to be popular, but watching the meeting on Saturday night I noticed Scotty Nichols scrapped into the semi finals with 6 points. In theory he could have come second in the semi (2pts) and then won the final (3pts) making a total of 11 points from 7 rides. Now Trick went through the card 15pts won his semi (3pts) and could have lost in final to Scotty after scoring 20pts in 7 rides !!!! Wouldn't it be better for the points scored during the meeting to be carried forward, then add the semi final scores, with the top 4 scorers going through to the final, then the points scored the final added on so that whoever scores the most points wins the meeting. I dont expect many people to like this but I think its much fairer than the current system.
AndyM
As you all know, I don't approve of the semi & final format, but I'm all for eradicating that kind of injustice - must as Sky love it! Agree with that idea, myself.
iris123
II dont expect many people to like this but I think its much fairer than the current system. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thats what i thought was going to happen(mentioned it last year). That was the system used here in the U21 qualifiers.I thought it was at least fair and gave a rider who was unbeaten all through but made a mistake in the semi's a chance to get into the final.People said t.v audiences wouldn't understand the winner of the final not winning the meeting, which is fair enough, but who is the sport being run for? Don't think it would be run without the TV money!
iris123
Fair enough.Thats why i'm not really that interested in the GP's Can't see me going to one next year unless the have one in the AOL Arena, but can't see that with the World Cup being here
father jack
For the TV audiences not understanding the format, it should not be beyond the capabilities of Commontators to explain the format, with a suitable set of graphics. I can't imagine them wanting to change the format after one year.

DanTheMan
and to be honest, even though i agree this idea would provide a fairer winner, this idea is laughable. no matter how much explaining the commentators did, most people would laugh in your face if you said, the winner of the grand final wasn't the actual winner overall. either stick with what we've got now, which in my eyes is great, or get rid of the finals totally. personally, i like the format as it is now, as its still all to play for at the end of the meeting Edited September 25, 2005 by DanTheMan

I personally prefer the world finals meeting format than the GP's. When you think of it we'll still get the same amount of meetings if they covered the Nordic final, British final etc etc and all the qualifying stages. Then the World final would be a huge climax to finish off with. I would like to see this personally. I can't stand the GP's. They ruin league speedway with riders leaving their faster bikes abroad for the GP that coming weekend, as well as not being able to fit in fixtures due to Gp's at the weekends. Rubbish. Dr Cyclops
any change to the format has to be passed by the FIM and run for 3 years so it wont change until the 2008 series.
