Does anyone know the where- abouts or remember former 1970s Bristol rider Derek Hole ?

I remember a Billy Hole who rode for Bristol some years ago - or am I getting confused - again?

Maybe he had a son named Derek.

Youre right, he is the son of another famous "Hole" - its not Johnny or Billy, its the eldest of the brothers but cant remember his name. Last I heard he was doing well with his car business "Vine Street Motors" in BATH. But does anyone know where he is now?

Derek was the son of Billy Hole. I met him at a Radio Bristol broadcast from the (then) soon-to-be demolished Eastville Stadium. His uncle Johnny Hole is the sole surviving senior racing Hole and he was at Somerset for a reunion about 2 years ago. There was a lady called Hole racing pre-war. Any connection?

Thanks for that bit of info "Knowle" . They certainly were a speedway family, saw Johnny at Somerset speedway (the night they made that Bulldog video) - Dont know his son Derek is now do you ? would be nice to talk to him about his days at Eastville.....and any other members of the team for that matter!

Dont know where Billy"s son Derek is now or for that matter any of the Eastville riders except that a second-halfer by the name of Richard Hodgson keeps a greengrocery shop on the Long cross in Lawrence Weston Bristol. The best bet to catch up with Johnnie Hole is to call in at the Midland Road Garage in Bath where you should find his uncle Johnnie Hole.If you do see either of them please ask if pre-war lady rider Vera Hole was related.Regarding the Eastville stars quite a few obviously live abroad however sadly the following are no longer with us; Tom Leadbitter,Soren Sjosten and Danny Kennedy. Saw Edger Stangeland being interviewed in the bar at Exeters last meeting-he now farms in Ireland and does a great irish accent!.

Hi Knowle, good to hear from you again, I myself heard too that Danny Kennedy passed away recently, its a shame he was a good rider from what I can remember of him - I believe he went to Poole - or was it Weymouth mid season,do you know how he died ? I live near Bath but cant think where Midland Rd Garage is can you help ?

Wow, didn't know Danny Kennady had died, remember watching him ride at Ellesmere for Weymouth around the time of Tommy Jansson' death, the reason i remember is because he had a pair of Tommy's cast off leathers.

Spelling.

Thank you Sandman, its a terrible shame hes gone. I remember the night he and Tony Garrard paired up whilst riding at Eastville - they were the youngest pairing to ride in a league match,he was only 16 or 17 then! nowadays its common place to see youngsters that age ride !

Went into Bath this morning, theres no Midland Road Garage....but there is a Midland Motor Company across the road from the old Green Park station, Could this be the place you are on about "KNOWLE"?

Sorry bulldog but I got this info secondhand from a man called Colston who, like me,is a member of the Bristol Speedway Supporters Club and who lives in Bath and takes his car there. At our next meeting I will get more info .I was shocked to see post from BASIL please post any definate info.

Hi "KNOWLE" good to hear from you again. I must admit I was quite shocked myself with the news from "BASIL", Ive heard this elsewhere too - so must be true. He was young too, born in 52, I guess the injuries from crashing eventually take their toll on the body. Im surprised you mentioned the supporters club - I thought they folded years ago, I would like to know more....could you email me please with details
