Mabe I will expand my point about sidecars Variity is the spice of life, here in Ozz one of the best tracks around run All classes including cars.

I understand in England each team has its own track.

How about a teams meet with 8 top sidecars to race inbetween teams racing. It brings more people to the meet and exposes them to the teams racing as well.

Different planet I'm afraid spiderweb.

Speedway fans go to see speedway, football fans go to see football. Same with all the major sports. We'd only see sidecars a unnecessary padding. We'd much sooner see more speedway. Sidecars don't attract any sizeable following here. I think they restrict themselves to grass tracks.

Oh yes? Who made the rule that football fans can't watch speedway or vice versa? Everybody is unique and has the potential to be attracted to a sport. Attract people in their formative years and you could easily win a fan for life, regardless of their other preferred interests.

Well Mylor with that way of thinking I can see why british speedway is in Trouble.

Adding different attractions could be a way of sourcing new supporters but not large scale.

The thing with team speedway is that a meeting has to flow! Hopefully towards a last heat decider. Some of the closer meetings can have you on the edge of your sea.... well cold terracing. That's another beauty of speedway! Like all the best sports it works on more than one level.

You could be interested from a technical point of view which currently there isn't alot made of.

You might just like seeing close on track action but you can also enjoy a meeting on the closeness of the score even if passing is at a premium.

Sure the best meetings are last heat deciders full of passing with the Diamonds winning of course but that's not always possible for one reason or another.

Personally, I don't think the Sky presentation make nearly enough of either the technical aspect or the actual match position so matches with limited passing appear dull despite the result being in the balance until near the end. Of course there is nothing you can do with one sided massacres won from the tapes but that's a whole other argument.

My point is by adding other attractions in between heats a meeting can lose momentum. Part of the appeal of team sports is watching the story unfold not just for that particular meeting but over the whole season with all its twists and turns.

I'm not sure adding sidecars would add to that. And if you put them on at the end most people will have left once the novelty value has worn off.

Didn't know there was one!

Perhaps I could have phrased it better though. When I go to speedway I want to see speedway and when I go to football.................

Where did I say football fans can't watch speedway

Are you trying to tell us that speedway's in trouble because we don't care much for sidecars?

No Mate, After reading the last couple of posts I can understand your comments (we dont have teams racing over here I wish we did but not enough numbers distances ect prevent it).

But I still think sidecars at the end of each solo round or after every 4th solo race would attract more people ect.

Sidecars over here pull the same or dare i say it bigger crowds than solos.

Now I will admit I have never even seen a English teams meeting live so it only a suggestion.

It would take a brave promoter to try it.

But this day and age the paying public expect more and more for their entertainment dollor sorry Pound!

Its just that New things need to be trialed.

Gillman South Aust have introduced 250cc go carts I hate the things, but it introduces people to the solos and sidecars that normally would not attend speedway.

Any way its only a suggestion.

Sidecars made appearances quite often and have been excellent - why on earth do you think they aren't a spectacle? They've often provided better entertainment than the speedway match. Maybe that's the problem!!

I'd have to agree with Kevin.I've seen a few meetings here with sidecar racing and it's not the same as on the longtracks.Quad racing is maybe more suited to smaller speedway tracks. They have also started running shorttrack racing alonside speedway on some tracks here, which has brought howls of protest from some.Think Teterow also had rally cars this year on the Bergring.

Would have to say, having been yestarday to a meeting with 2 500cc classes,a sidecar class and 3 different 50/80cc and a 250cc , i much prefer a simple team meeting with maybe a junior group interspersed between the heats.Although the youngsters must get their chance, all the breaks for presentations are boring and lets face it 50cc and 80cc speedway on a normal speedway track are no spectacle either.

I've mostly seen them on smaller, tighter tracks like Reading and Oxford. IMO, they work better around places like Coventry.

Admittedly I've seen them most often at Coventry, but Sandy Lane is reasonably wide - I'd have thought it was great to watch them fence-scraping there!
