International Open 2006 in Argentina

I am writing this e-mail to invite you to take part in the ‘International Open 2006 in Argentina’, which will take place between 8th January and 26th February 2006 in Bahia Blanca, 630km (390miles) south of the city of Buenos Aires, with a population of 150,000. It is the middle of summer at this time of year and the city is very passionate about Speedway, last year saw the fiftieth anniversary of the sport, which has a lot of tradition in Argentine society.

There are various touristy towns with beautiful beaches an hours drive from the city, which you could enjoy in your free time.

The championship will take place in a small area of no more than 250km (155miles) from one track to another, which means there would not be a lot of travelling involved.

Argentine tracks are between 300 and 350 metres long (980-1150 ft), very smooth, wide and bump free, which are the optimal ground conditions for good bike-control.

Most of our riders are young with a lot of energy to win and to develop themselves within the sport. They always want to learn from the more experienced European riders and they always aim to take part in European leagues. All of the bikes that they use are Laydown and most of them have Jawa engines, but the economic situation and the lack of parts mean that the mechanics have to devise means to get the best performance out of the engines.

In previous years we have been proud to host riders of different riding levels, for example: Armando Castagna (Italy), Claus Kristensen (Denmark), Tony Svab (Czech Republic), Emiliano Sanchez (Argentina), Simone Terenzani (Italy), Thomas Sthaldert (Austria), Peter Heller (Germany), Manuel Hausinger (Austria), Dean Garrow (UK), Crish Hesmer (Canada), Gaetan Carignan (Canada) etc.

Taking part in the ‘International Open in Argentina 2006’ would give you the great advantage of being on the other side of the hemisphere and give the opportunity to young riders to be able to train and get international experience competing on different types of tracks, with different riders and ways of competing. For the more experienced among you it would be a way of training during the winter break in Speedway in the northern hemisphere and to be in tip-top condition to start racing in the different leagues there.

The organisation ‘Speedway Extreme’ is being promoted by its president Carlos Villar* and a group of young enthusiasts and experienced people from the motor world, who hope to make the sport bigger and more popular on a national and international level.

Anyone who is interested should reply to this e-mail by 30th September to allow time to organise and plan in advance to avoid any complications.

We also ask you to tell your rider friends and if they are interested they should get in touch as soon as possible!

*Carlos Villar (30) is an ex-Speedway rider who had an accident in 2003 riding in the British league for Berwick Bandits and broke his spine, which left him paraplegic. With his experience, strength and will he is organising this project and we hope for your support and collaboration.
