Subedei
INDYWIDUALNE MISTRZOSTWA POLSKI Not so very long ago Scott Nicholls became British champion and now it's time to find who's going to be this year's Polish champion. The great Tomasz Gollob has won the title 6 times, most recently in 2002, and this year the final is being staged at his home track in Tarnow. The current champion is Grzegorz Walasek, who won the title at Czestochowa last year. As you'd expect, there's a high quality field assembled, but many might be surprised to see that GP star Jaroslaw Hampel failed to qualify. Not to worry, the born-again Pole Rune Holta is there. ------------------------------ IMP FINAL - Tarnow 1..P Protasiewicz..2,2,1,3,3 = 11 2..G Walasek..1,1,0,3,2 = 7 3..P Swiderski..0,0,1,1,0 = 2 4..J Gollob..3,2,3,3,2 = 13 5..J Kolodziej..3,3,3,3,3 = 15 6..M Rempala..2,2,2,2,3 = 11 7..T Jedrzejak..0,1,0,0,0 = 1 8..K Kasprzak..1,0,3,1,2 = 7 9..P Paluch..0,0,0,1,1 = 2 10..J Rempala..1,0,1,0,0 = 2 11..S Ulamek..3,3,0,0,0 = 6 12..R Kosciecha..2,1,2,1,2 = 8 13..D Balinski..1,1,Ex/T,2,1 = 5 14..R Holta..2,3,2,2,1 = 10 15..G Rempala..0,2,1,0,1 = 4 16..T Gollob..3,3,3,2,3 = 14 R1..M Kuciapa = DNR R2..P Staszek..2 = 2 ------------------------------ Ht 1..J Gollob, Protasiewicz, Walasek, Swiderski Ht 2..Kolodziej, M Rempala, Kasprzak, Jedrzejak Ht 3..Ulamek, Kosciecha, J Rempala, Paluch Ht 4..T Gollob, Holta, Balinski, G Rempala Ht 5..Kolodziej, Protasiewicz, Balinski, Paluch Ht 6..Holta, M Rempala, Walasek, J Rempala Ht 7..Ulamek, G Rempala, Jedrzejak, Swiderski Ht 8..T Gollob, J Gollob, Kosciecha, Kasprzak Ht 9..T Gollob, M Rempala, Protasiewicz, Ulamek Ht 10..Kolodziej, Kosciecha, G Rempala, Walasek [E/F] Ht 11..Kasprzak, Holta, Swiderski, Paluch Ht 12..J Gollob, Staszek, J Rempala, Jedrzejak Ht 13..Protasiewicz, Holta, Kosciecha, Jedrzejak Ht 14..Walasek, Balinski, Kasprzak, Ulamek Ht 15..Kolodziej, T Gollob, Swiderski, J Rempala Ht 16..J Gollob, M Rempala, Paluch, G Rempala Ht 17..Protasiewicz, Kasprzak, G Rempala, J Rempala Ht 18..T Gollob, Walasek, Paluch, Jedrzejak Ht 19..M Rempala, Kosciecha, Balinski, Swiderski Ht 20..Kolodziej, J Gollob, Holta, Ulamek ------------------------------ Notes: 1..Ht 10 and Walasek has machine misery. 2..Ht 12 and Balinski gets up to mischief at the tapes and is excluded and replaced by Staszek. 3..Ht 15 and Kolodziej passes Tomasz Gollob to win the heat. 4..Ht 20 and Janusz Kolodziej is Polish champion with a 15 point maximum. ------------------------------ TOP THREE: 1..Janusz KOLODZIEJ..15 2..Tomasz GOLLOB..14 3..Jacek GOLLOB..13 ------------------------------ All details from: http://www.przegladzuzlowy.pl Edited August 15, 2005 by Subedei
Mateusz
I supported Bydgoszcz' PePe and T.Gollob but I really like Janusz so his today's great achievement was a very nice surprise Congratulations to him! Gollob rather missed it for his own "wish" - leading all 4 laps in the heat 15 he was probably too self-confident and getting from the last curve straight to the finish line he was overtook in the outside (!) by Kolodziej! It's a very rare view to see Gollob being overtook by someone in the outside as it's usually Tomek the man near the fence. But Janusz was absolutely superb tonight (so damn fast..) and he really deserved this win. Oh, and the last heat was gonna be fascinating as after 19 heats T.Gollob had 14 points (in 5), Kolodziej 12 and J.Gollob 11 (both in 4). The line up of this heat was: J.Gollob, Ulamek, Holta and Kolodziej. If Jacek had won and Janusz had been 2nd, they all would have had 14 points (!) and the whole three (Kolodziej and Gollob bros) would have run in a bonus heat fighting for all 3 medals!... But Kolodziej won (Jacek was 2nd) and that's how it finished. It was quite moving to watch Janusz with tears in his eyes getting on to the highest place of the podium... Subedei
As you say aTomek Gollob did seem to throw it away. But he's won it 6 times already. This was Kolodziej's first win and in his first final. A super achievement. But a special word for dear old Jacek Gollob and his third place. That's a super result for a decent rider who has always ridden in the shadow of his brother. But, I suppose, with Tomasz finishing 2nd he was in the shadow of his brother again. Still, well done JG. But mainly well done Janusz Kolodziej.

tommy
Congrats to Janusz! This was one of the better finals in a long time. The track was prepared for the Tarnow riders and all five of 'em looked fast...even G.Rempala. I hope Janusz can continue this streak and keep on improving! Also big props to Marcin Rempala, awesome balancing on the bike. Edited August 16, 2005 by tommy

Subedei
And in the wake of his stunning triumph, in front of a reported crowd of 18,500 at Tarnow, Janusz Kolodziej has fired a broadside at his critics. The new Polish champion, still aged just 21, dedicated his triumph to "those who keep saying I'm a wasted talent".
Lawrence
Janusz Kolodziej the new Polish Individual Chamion is 21 years old - Tha last Polish Champion in the age of 21 was...........Tomasz Gollob. Rico
Was very pleased to hear this news (thanks for the text Tommy). I forwarded the info on to CharlieThePlasterer who was at Smallmead and I believe it got mentioned over the tannoy at Monday's match there. Janusz made a very favourable impression on those lucky enough to see him ride in the UK and I've followed his career with interest since. Hopefully next year will see him make another few steps forward once he is in the main body of the team (assuming it's going to be Tarnow) and he can really establish himself. Definitely too early for him to be in the Grand Prix, though hopefully in the next few years he will show enough to be granted an invitation. Paragon
Many thanks to Leliwa. My wife & I had a great time in Tarnow & what a great meeting, the track is a great racing circuit & produced some of the best racing & passing I have seen in a long time. Congratulations to Janusz Kolodziej, his last bend pass on Gollob was a sight to behold. Also Congratulations to the Tarnow club & fans who made it a great nights speedway. Jools
Hi Leliwa, Just wanted to echo Paragon´s comments! What a great night´s speedway and what a lovely track & cityof Tarnow. I hope BSI take note - it would be an ideal GP or WTC venue. Kolodziej was magnificent & I hope we see more of him in GPs, WTCs etc very soon. Marcin Rampala also impressed me & the Gollob brothers were entertaining, as always, too. I would not be surprised if Kolodzeij becomes one of the best riders in the world in a few years time. Fantastic night of speedway. Many thanks for your help with getting tickets. All the best, Jools.
Champion
Janusz had an accident in heat 10 and the day after doctor said that one of the bones in his hand is fractured. Imagine fighting the title with all this pain, what a man !

Photo Eddie
Janusz Kolodziej the new Polish Individual Chamion is 21 years old - Tha last Polish Champion in the age of 21 was...........Tomasz Gollob. He has won his first title in Zielona Gora in 1992 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I believe I am correct in saying that Janusz is actually the youngest Polsish Champion since the great Zenon Plech, aged 19, won the first of his five titles in 1972 at Bydgoszcz. Janusz is about 21 years and three months whereas Tomek was about 21 and six months when he won his first title in '92. It is truly quite an achievement. Maddas69
It was a good meeting, but it is never fair when the track is so overly prepared for the home riders. Both Piotr Protasiewicz and Rune Holta came out to different heats only to find their startgate overwatered. The track was never watered at all when the home riders where at the gate, and their starting gates was ripped up while the other were kept stone hard and watered as much as possible. But the meeting had a deserved winner, although Tomasz Gollob looked the fastes rider on the night.
