mojo
As a "new" member but an "old" speedway fan just wondered if anyone could help. We are going to Bydgoszcz a week on Friday, flying from Luton to Gdansk and then taking the train. My friend has been before but it ws an organised trip and she cannot remember much about it - probably the vodka! We will have a taxi from the airport to the railway station but the train site has several stations listed for Gdansk. Does anyone know which one we have to ask for please? We are staying at the Pod Orlem - can we walk to the stadium? If not, is it best to use a tram, taxi etc? Can anyone recommend places to eat and drink? I know you mention the other hotels - are they the best places to use and are they close to one another? We have done Warsaw/Wroclaw so we are quite good at sign language. Its a new route for myslef having done Berlin then train previously (twice) and Poznan then train last year. Gdansk Glowny (I think means central) looks to be the best bet. Hoping to spend a few hours checking the place out before going down to Bydgoszcz, I'm never one for the practice days. What flight are you returning on ? I'm on the Monday am return. Rico - please pass on your pearls of wisdom kind sir ! correct station, rough taxi fare from airport to town, places of interest etc. Also, what is the consensus for the Sunday everyone ? Looks like we are scuppered a bit for league racing, Leighs testimonial is do-able in Leszno but the return back to Byd could be a tad late. A shame that Grudsiadz did not make it through the play-off quarters, that could have been handy only 70kms away from Byd, and a very picturesque looking place too. Never mind perhaps a bit of sight seeing then in Torun, and certainly a Super Sphinx ! Edited August 16, 2005 by Papa Bazarou

Probably leave about 3ish, tea time into Byd, time for a triple S, then off to the Brda. There are trains at 15:17 and 16:13 both taking 1:45, so plenty of options. I have a feeling that the Friday flight will be a bit of a speedway-fest again. Image what it will be like on Ryanair next year when they start the Bydgoszcz route ? Home meetings in the extraliga would be do-able - BKS Polonia vs Apator Torun, local derby, now that would be a bit special, or against Unia Tarnow - the Gollobs back at the mecca. Rico and myself are indeed flying out to Gdansk on the Thursday, but we are currently planning to stop over in Gdansk that night (assuming I sort out a hotel) so we could very well see you lot in the train station in Gdansk on the Friday....although that entirely depends on how good the night before was Personally I'd like to be down in Bydgoszcz for the practice to meet up with the local Net Fans again. The trains from Gdansk to Bydgoszcz are fairly regular, but I think I am safe in saying that Gdansk Glowny to Bydgoszcz Glowna is what you want. A quick check of the booking details tells me that we're flying back on the late flight on the Monday. Current thinking is that we'll stop over in Torun on the Sunday, although that has yet to be booked as well Are you on your own this year PapaB, or are there others coming with you? Jo and Jonty are not coming this year which is a shame, but they'll be up for it again next year plus a Wroclaw, southern Poland touristy trip as well heopefully to catch the GP down there. There are a few others of the Cov brigade going (Ballinger, JayEmm etc, albeit a differnt route, Easyjet into Warsaw late Friday, across to Byd on the Saturday then back home again on the Sunday. I don't expect too much partying form that part of the gang, youngsters in tow etc. but you never know ! My good pal Scotty Woz is coming over with myself via Gdansk, his 1st Polish trip, I'm sure he'll enjoy it. Just yourself and Rico this time ? Yeah, obviously the Thursday.....read my post again. (what's that edited bit all about ) It is just Rico and I that will be making the Bydgoszcz pilgrimage this year. My sister and her boyfriend will be in Estonia that weekend while Tomek has shirked the trip this year for some reason (sure Rico can explain why). I've only done 2 days in the office since I got back from Wroclaw and can't wait to get back out to Poland again!!!

Tomek's not been out for a while now has he ? Last time I saw him in Poland was in 01 at the Brda when he got a touch ambitious (as usual by all accounts) only to be reminded that his targets other half was standing behind him ! He was at Cov earlier in the season, suitably quieter in the same presence of people.

Hopefully you will enjoy your time on here. As your other queries regarding the train have been answered by my good friend HenryW I will focus on the above points. The stadium, depending on your capabilities, is certainly walkable. Probably around 20 mins going at average pace from town. Taxi's in Bydgoszcz have been something of an experience in the past, from el Bandito taking you halfway round the town, to someone doing an impersonation of an F1 driver through the city streets. Still, we've survived them and it's all part of the adventure ! As for eating, there are a number of eateries in the area around the Pod Orlem hotel, as well as over the river by the main square. It's a bit of a tradition for us to eat in a small pizza place near the main square as our pre-meeting meal on the Saturday (remember your UFO Shovlar ??). If you want upmarket, the hotel restaurant is superb, but there are many more options around. Do try to get yourself to the Brda Hotel on the Friday night, where you'll be able to meet up with a good few other Forum members as well as some locals, who'll be able to give you some good advice on the city. gary pops
Looking forward to Bydgoszcz ,Hope to see you all at chesterfields on Saturday night.Does anyone know how far the leszno track is from the Railway station?I want to get to Leighs testimonial but have got to get a train straight back to warsaw that evening a bit sharpish! Also, what is Chesterfields like? will it be full of speedway people or is it popular with the locals?
Mateusz
About 30-40 minutes by walk. Chesterfield is gonna be full of speedway people, mainly from Britian I guess, as it's not a typical pub where all Polish drunkers go after speedway. Rico
Also, what is Chesterfields like? will it be full of speedway people or is it popular with the locals?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Usually by the door is a large group of Brits, however the majority of the place will be locals, which is no bad thing Rico

Hazzman
How far is Adams testionmal to Bydgoszcz in distance? How can you do it - car, bus, train?
Rico
Hazzman, I'd imagine you could do it by any of the methods you state. Not sure of the exact distance as the Polrail site is not showing the fares (which shows the distance), however you can certainly do the trip by train. 4.5 hours(ish) there, 3.5 hours back, with the 2232 train your most likely return train, arriving in Bydgoszcz around 2am on the Monday morning. Mateusz and Mama (Bydgoszcz Net Fans) got this train after the recent Leszno v Czestochowa match. I'll settle for a quiet day visiting Torun and staying there for the night, assuming I have a bed to sleep in (nudge nudge HenryW - have you booked anything ?). Hazzman
Its an option because we are there all Monday.
