SCB
Why can't we see more permanent GP tracks, why doesn't he sign for an Elite League team? He is amazing and I would pay good money to watch him every week. He has shown in this SWC what a talent he is and that he can still do it, just to shut up the doubters (not that there are too many). Subedei
Despite Havelock talking about the guy having "cartoons" going on in his mind, Gollob's biggest problem in the GPs this year has been a lack of speed. He thought of switching to GMs during the winter, but he stuck with Jawas and was nowhere. Now he's on GMs and is again looking a world-class performer. He started to look the part in Prague, but he's been on a different level at Eskilstuna and now Wroclaw. But let's not forget Walasek. He got a 15-pointer tonight. SCB
I'll start a Walasek thread too
Subedei
Walasek had all his races won by half-way down the back straight on lap 1. His most difficult opponent tonight was Sophie Blake. I was surprised to see the great man Tomasz Gollob deigning to be interviewed during the meeting. Still, about all she managed from him was that he was "happy". SCB
Personally, I have great respect for any foreign rider who gives an interview. Since Gollob has given interviews my opinion of him has shot up 10 fold and Walasek should be proud of himself for having a go, even if he was confused. Subedei
I agree. It was simply a light-hearted comment. I think part of the mystique that surrounds Gollob is that stony face that he puts on and an aversion to being interviewed often. That and the often outrageous moves he pulls on the track. rabbit
That's just Grzegorz for you though. When he used to ride for Poole, MikeG always used to say you just pointed him in the direction of the track when it was his turn to ride, wind him up and let him go. Still the one rider I so want to see back for us and I've always ended up disappointed so far. I remeber hearing that Gollob's aversion to be interviewed was that he alledgedly has a slight stutter. Not sure how true that is, but he's got more confident as the years have go on for sure and credit to the guy - his English is infinitely better than my Polish! DartfordHammer
Well, it was far more English than Greg could say last year. If I remember, the only English I ever heard him say before last night was 'thank you very much'. So well done to him on his fantastic maximum and his improved linguistics. And yes, Gollob really is simply the best. Heat 25 was shaping up to be another cracker until the Czech rider fell. However because of his tempremental attitude he will never be a world champion. Fact!!!!!!
Subedei
He's strung together 3 outstanding meetings in a row, so don't count him out just yet. Now he's got a fast engine underneath him, I'd expect him to finish the GP season strongly and with Bydgoszcz steaming up he could win a GP. And then there's next season. Subedei
By my reckoning, Tomasz Gollob's average for the 2005 SWC was 10.67 and for the 2 meetings in Poland 11.20. That's mighty impressive. For comparison, TR's average, by my reckoning, was 7.27. Edited August 6, 2005 by Subedei
spin king
I think if was a bit more consistent he would have ben a multi world champ, some of the moves he makes on a speedway bike are breathtaking.
Jive
Until he came up against Rico But he is a special talent I love watching Gollob he is just so amazing, I've never forgot that swoop on Jimmy Nilsen to win his home GP a few years back absolutely brilliant, just a shame that many will remember him more for that Boyce punch
Matousek
great rider that should have won world champ, they still show the punch now on sky!
Subedei
Should be interesting to see if he carries this form into the GP next weekend.
