Guest Sir Lunchalot
For the UK fans of John Oliver I thought I would pass this snippet on. It was posted on one of the Oz boards that John sustained an eye injury in a workshop accident a few days ago and has had surgery to repair the damage. I don't know the extent of the injury or how the operation went but always nasty things to be dealing with because of the eye being so intricate and delicate. I'll post again if I hear anything further and hopefully the news will be of a full recovery with no lasting detrimental effects.

Main Man
Can't get through on either mobile or house numbers and have lost his e-mail address after my computer hard drive went wrong --so at moment no way of getting hold of them. If anyone is in contact can they get them to call or e-mail me . Thanks Laurence Rogers
whowasthatberntpersson
I'll give it a go Laurence, as I said previously they have both changed mobile numbers. Maybe one of the Brisbane brigade can make contact.
Swift Saint
last monday night while john was preparing his bike for the weekend at the gold coast in he was putting the exhaust spring on and the spring snapped and went straight into his eye ball he was rushed to hospital and had 4 hours of surgery to remove the peice of spring from his eye the opperation went very well but it will be 4 to 5 weeks be fore we know if he has lost sight in his eye or how much sight has been lost i will keep you posted John Oliver's Dad has posted the above message on the Boston Message Board and I have placed it here for the information of his many friends in Great Britain who may not otherwise see this sad news. This is really dreadful and I am sure that everyone who knows John will want to join me in the hope that he is able to make a complete recovery. Main Man
Thanks Malcolm. Also to those down under trying to make contact for me. My fingers are crossed (and everything else) for Shaggs and that good news will be forthcoming. I have watched his progress from day 1 in the UK and tracked him, finally signing him for Kings Lynn when I stayed with them two winters ago, then his unfortunate accident at Coventry when he shattered his elbow riding for the Starlets (and on max that night too!!), then not coming back this year , this news comes as a great shock and I am sure the big speedway family out there will join with me in wishing John all the best. jotrez
It seems that John was very lucky in the fact that the part of the eye that was damaged was the white and not the cornea/retina,etc. He's having it checked in about 4 weeks time. Hope he has a speedy recovery from this nasty injury.
