shazzybird
Hopefully Edward will go that one step further Always admired Gordon as a rider (even if he was for Eastbourne ) like you say if only.......
sussex bulldog
I remember Gordon well with Keith Pritchard following him home for a 5-1. Sad how he was treated at the end of his career though.
shazzybird
SB the last time I saw Gordon at Eastbourne I didn't think he'd changed one bit funny how these ol' riders stay the same must be the speed they went kept the wrinkles behind their ears
AndyM
At the time I always thought Gordon somewhat over-rated. Granted that he won his WC runners-up spot fair and square, but I never thought of him as being second best rider in the world. He was a bit of a start tart - can't recall him doing much from the back, though I guess I was spoiled having been brought up on a diet of PC and Mort! In retrospect, I'd class Gordon as a professional and worthy rider, not as exciting as some but very capable in his own quiet way.
sussex bulldog
Well each to our own but I have seen Gordon going around the outside at Arlington on many occasions. Yes Shazzy last time I saw him I did not think he had aged at all.
norbold
I have a portrait photograph of Gordon in White City colours, not actually riding. If you'd like it I can scan it in and e-mail it to you.
sussex bulldog
Norbold I would be most grateful. When Gordon crashed at Arlington he was concussed and when he came to he thought he was at White City.

Sad how he was treated at the end of his career though. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How was he treated, I vaguely remember, but my memory not very clear on the matter. The one thing I do remember his him sffering from diabetes, I seem to remember him being diagnosed at the peak of his career.

Having been recently diagnosed with it I hope that I can do the same. Edited August 3, 2005 by sussex bulldog
REBELS77
I have alway thought Gordon was treated very badly,as when you look at his career he rode from 1970-1994 which is 25 seasons why wasnt he given a proper send off, riders today get given meetings for all kind of reasons today,im sure Eastbourne would have been packed out to say farewell. The first few months of 94 he was tremendous at reserve for us (remember him beating Billy Hamill twice against Cradley). Ended up with an 8 point average, moved to number 1 and then understandibly struggled. For some pointless reason he was then ditched in favour of Andy Grahame (who quite frankly wasn't up to the job, he was at the end of his career). I was a big fan of his during his time at Wolves, his inside swoops were excellent and his efforts were much appreciated although not properley rewarded. The move did neither rider nor club any good and Gordon was left with the average he obtained at reserve as he did not complete enough rides at number 1. whowasthatberntpersson
A very classy rider in his prime particularly at Arlington where he was a world beater. In the early eighties when Cradley were dominant it was always a feature seeing Gordon up against the top Heathens and quite often he came out on top. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but didn't he have to overcome diabetes to keep his career going, another fine feat.

One of the best riders from the back I have ever seen, and the first one I ever saw take all 3 others from behind in an individual meeting. Mind you, he never could ride Belle Vue. A superb rider, undoubtedly one of my all-time favourites and an absolute professional. Does anyone see him now ?
sussex bulldog
He does make the odd appearance at Arlington and looks no older than when he last rode.
