Tomasz Gollob And The Non-blood Pole

Recommended Posts

And so, after the thrilling opening chapter of John Postlethwaite's SWC 2005, in which the depleted Britons put the invading Danes to the sword and made progress to the final in Wroclaw, what will the second chapter at Eskilstuna bring?

Can the non-blood Pole, Rune Holta, help the aging Polish wizard Tomasz Gollob to steer the Poles through to the final in their home (adopted in the case of Holta) country? Or will the soon-to-be-crowned (again) king of speedway Tony Rickardsson, together with his sidekick the erratic princling Antonio Lindback, lead the Swedes straight through to the final?

Or will Australia's "Holy Trinity" of Crump, Sullivan and Adams triumph in Sweden.

Or maybe you think the rank outsiders Germany will, as Cassius Clay did so many years ago, "shake up the world"?

It's a tough one to call, but I'm going for the Poles to get straight through to the final, leaving Australia and Sweden in the race-off.

I'm thinking Sweden will take it easily.....their team is full of riders who could, and in some cases have, won the GP. They can be amazing. Australia to come close 2nd, Poland 3rd. Germany will probably be poor, but let's not write them off yet! Denmark and Australia winning the race off. So basically I think the final will be

GB

Denmark(not Poland, lol!)

Australia

Sweden

Looking forward to seeing tomorrows action....probably more exciting than last night's! Well, that's unless Floppy is doing his commentary again

Edit- typed Poland instead of Denmark

Just a thought, but if Sweden qualify directly and then Denmark and Australia win the race-off, how the hell are Poland getting into your final line-up?

 How does that work? How can Poland be in the Final if you've predicted them not to win Event 2 or come first or second in the Race-Off?

Personally, I think Sweden will go straight to the Final, Poland and Australia to the Race-Off, where Poland and Denmark will go through to the Final, with Poland eventually winning it.

Edit: 2 minutes too late. My typing needs speeding up!

The chances of poland winning tommorow are nil the people will want to see them in the race off and then the final can't see much effort to put into winning tommorow ;)

BSI would probably prefer Poland to be in the race-off, but my guess is that most Polish fans would prefer to have them safely in the final rather than in a highly competitive race-off. The Poles will be going all out for victory tomorrow night.

Yep, it's a similar situation to last night. A lot of people I know thought, if GB don't go straight through and end up in the race off, the lads might as well stay at home. The Poles need to win, or they have no chance. If they go into the race off, they've got Denmark, probably Sweden or Australia, and it's going to be much more competitive!

Yes in most sports yes but money talks i would expect poles to finish third tommorow then come threw the plays offs with the danes and then these two take the top two places in the final much to the delight of subedei his side kick kitten and poland no1 british fan rico :D

Just like Britain generously went to the race-off last season. Hang on, no they didn't. Well, maybe the Danes a year earlier? Nope, they qualified straight away as well.

BSI might well want the Poles in the race-off, but the Poles will want to be in the final as soon as possible. Money is not a consideration, except for BSI.

The race-off could be better than the final.

Ah Event 2 the Group of Death in my view. It will certainly be a tough call who wins this Event. I really can't see the Germans doing anything TBH. I reckon the Swedes will win the event, with a big battle going between Australia and Poland to see who finishes second and third.

Yea good point subedei but you forget that these teams were at home in the first place as the world cup was run in one nation. much harder to lose at home than away from your fans .

Anyway try or not i think sweden will win tomorrow :approve:

Am I missing something here? I know Holta races under a Polish licence, but since when has he taken Polish nationality? Surely that's the only test that counts if someone wants to race for a country internationally? While some countries have been known to bend the qualification period, I'm absolutely certain that nobody would be allowed to field a ringer under these circmstances in the Olympics, or any other sport come to that.:shock:

As far as I know, Ronnie Moore holds the record for riding for the most countries, England, New Zealand and Australia! Any advance on that!

It is a bit of joke in sport overall though, especially in rugby, not to mention football, whereby if your grandmother drinks Guiness, you are eligible to play for Ireland!

Perhaps Holta's mother weaned him on plum vodka?

As for the meeting itself, if you accept that the Germans are also-rans, the rest could finish in any order on the night. Don't think the Poles are quite the force they once were, though if any Swedish track was going to suit them it would be the 400m of Eskilstuna. Still think they will be third, behind Sweden and Aussie, in that order.
