spin king
Trying to think who in today's riders reminds me, but can't think of anybody at the moment.
Grachan
Great rider, but for some reason my main memories of Dennis seem to be of when he made a bit of an arse of himself. In a World Championship Qualifier at White City he reared up badly and snaked all over the track, causing Hans Nielsen to fall. Sigalos was excluded, but for some reasons refused to accept it was his fault, and even came out for the re-run giving 'V' signs to the ref before finally having to leave the track. You can understand riders getting frustrated from time to time when things go against them, but it was so obviously his own fault. Another time was in a World Team Cup final, when he was way ahead with one lap to go, but Michael Lee caught him up and passed him on the line. Being interviewed after the race he admitted he was so far in front that he gave up trying and went to sleep. 'It's just.. inexcusable...' he said. I think he also won the notorious race in the 1982 Overseas Final when Bruce Penhall didn't try and pulled wheelies at the back.

spin king
Have to say though he never reached his full potential, like alot of the Americans.
Grachan
Averages are still based on 4 rides per meeting nowadays. In fact it's probably harder to get a higher average now because of fixed gate positions and the top scorers race. 10.99 is still damn impressive though. spin king
Yes makes you wonder even more why he did not get anywhere near a world title.
rentaghost
Have to say though he never reached his full potential, like alot of the Americans. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> a bad ankle break put paid to that, he was just approaching his peak and blowing everyone away when it happened. tried to make a comeback in 1985 but fell again and aggrivated it so called it a day
salty
Never reached his full potential because of injury. Without that he would probably given Hans and Erik a run for their money in the late 80's.

spin king
Have to disagree, at the time of his injury, I think was on the top of his game, but did not make his mark on a world final.
2ndbendbeerhut
It was watching riders like him and John Cook at Foxhall that made me become hooked to the sport. Yes he should have done more with his career but how many others can we say that about? Gollob, Sanders, Moran brothers etc Karl
Grachan
Have to disagree, at the time of his injury, I think was on the top of his game, but did not make his mark on a world final. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That depends how you look at it really. He did finish on the rostrum in 1982, and also won the Pairs title with Bobby Schwartz the same year. I don't think he did too badly as he was never someone I considered the best rider in the World, good as he was.
rami
More than a match for those two.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I dont think so Also remember him crashing at Cradley (think it was in Golden hammer) and when St Johns removed his boot they found lovely painted Pink toenails, Apparently he had fallen asleep on his way to stadium and his girlfriend painted them for a joke ( well so he claimed)!!!! I agree with Grachan a Very good rider but at no stage did i ever consider him to be the best in the world
youngy105
Didn't Siggy go on to win the World Powerboat Championship with Bruce Penhall after he quit shale-shifting. If Dennis Sigalos was, not saying he is going to, to make a comeback in the EL any ideas who would own his contract...............none other than Belle Vue. The same would apply to Preben Eriksen, Larry Kosta if they too were to make a comeback. Have a look here Who Does Own Dennis Sigalos's Contract? to find out just how that is. Have a look here Who Does Own Dennis Sigalos's Contract? to find out just how that is. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes Siggy as he was nicknamed was a great rider up until his bad injury. Together with John Cook he rejuvenated Ipswich in 1981 after a couple of years when things went a bit stale. I remmember him making a short comeback at the back end of 1985 for Ipswich which I believe was the last time he rode over here. If you look back at race times from Siggys era at Ipswich you'll find that race times back then were very similar to times now! - One of the few tracks where race times haven't changed that much in the last 25 years. In fact in the intervening years after Siggy had left, times at Ipswich got slightly slower! Yes I believe that siggy with Bruce Penhall won the world powerboat championship, a combination of the combined two's racing skills and big money investment I suspect. - I believe Siggy and Penhall were both very wealthy even before coming into speedway. Siggy, Larry Kosta and Preben Eriksen will all now be at least in their mid 40's so its highly unprobable they would consider making a comeback or indeed if they did be good enough for EL racing!
