Del boy
Question that got me thinking. Late 60's early 70's I think Long Eaton were known as the Archers. But for a short time they changed there name to Nottingham Archers. Did they still race at Station Road or did they move into Nottingham if so were. frigbo
Nottingham Outlaws rode at Station Road in 1979 and
Gemini
I think Long Eaton have had a few name changes - another one was The Invaders. Incidentally I was talking to someone at the Leicester reunion on Tuesday and he seemed to think it is all systems go at Station Road, but as we have heard that before I guess we'll just have to wait and see what develops this time - if anything. Gemini
Maybe, but it would be a shame if it was at the expense of another track shutting.
stansolo
I really hope Long Eaton come back to Station Rd, I as a fellow midlander will be there to see the day........BUT! ....If Station Rd is turned down there is plenty of land between Ilkeston & Sandiacre which is right in the middle of an industrial area, I know because I drive through it every week. fireblade
The local council are going to look absolute plonkers if they turn down the speedway. Having fought one corner at a public enquiry they are gonna look stupid if they do an about turn. Having said that the council has changed from Labour to Tory, but to build houses on the site, the local plan will need amending, most councils are due to revise their plans over the next three to four years. I go past Station Road most weeks (as the wifes family live in Long Eaton) and to get the track ready for 2006 work needs to start now. BOBBATH
To me Long Eaton will ever remain "The Archers" -if Station Road returns I will personally come over from Canada to attend-and have some fish and chips from that great chippy. Also liked going into a restaurant called "Banner's Farm Fare" for egg, sausages and chips-there was one in Beeston also-Is Banner's Farm Fare still going???. Good old Vic White still lives in Long Eaton-great guy!! I miss English sausages but now a chain of pubs in Toronto sells Palethorpe's-the bangers, beans and mash are superb-if you are reading this Tigertom-its the Firkin chain. 25yearfan
Has the redevelopment of Long Eatons old home at Station Rd started yet? I've said it before on here but I think the best chance of speedway ever returning to this area would be at the very plush Nottingham greyhound stadium with the team taking on the 1979/80 Long Eaton name of Nottingham Outlaws! Shadders
Has the redevelopment of Long Eatons old home at Station Rd started yet? I don't know how long ago this was taken, but here is the former Long Eaton Stadium from the air on Google Earth Long Eaton Stadium I only went there once, back in 1988 ..... The Rockets won 60-36 that night on a rain sodden track, their only away win all season!!! ..... I stood on the banking with the trains running behind, may have been the 3rd/4th bends, I'm not sure ..... I recall the stadium being in a rather dilapidated state ..... The only Invaders riders I can recall without digging out the programme are Gary O'Hare and the captain who used to ride for Hackney and Milton Keynes who's surname was White, but his first name escapes me!!
