Haldon 1977

Hi everyone.

 

I'm looking for information about the above track at Haldon racecourse, near Exeter. I believe that it may, like Chasewater, have been used just once for a longtrack meeting in the seventies.

 

Would be grateful for any information or memories of this venue.

It was used as a training track quite a bit.

That would have been '79 and '80 I think.

 

I vaguely remember (I was young!) Peter Collins getting on the rostrum for a longtrack meeting there, but he didn't win it. Could have been Phil Crump ?!

You'll need someone much older than me for more detail, sorry.

Although I now remember it being boiling hot !

 

I wouldn't know if it was the only meeting there either...but I know I went there for that meeting and once when we tagged along with Peter Prinsloo on a training session with a couple of young Danes.

Reidar Eide won the first meeting, somewhat of a surprise victor given the quality of opposition.
