This Years Gp Wild Cards

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or are some/most of the wild card choices a bit crap this year. Surely they should be picking future grand prix riders not ex-gp riders. I think there has only been two decent choies, Matej Zagar and Niels-Kristian Iversen, all the rest of the wild cards have been really poor choices.

It must be tough coming into the circus mid-way through.

Kasprzak did okay in the 1st GP, Zagar did very well in the 3rd (but he knows Krsko like Gollob knows Bydgoszcz) and Iversen did okay in Copenhagen.

There's just no easy rides in the GP this year, with the reduced field. You don't have quite so much chaf in with the wheat. And you're straight in against the wheat this time around. It's tough for them.

With the GP's where they are what can you expect.Like subedei said with Zagar he should do well in his home GP.Iversen was also good.A bit unlucky.Holta is one of the best outside of the GP's and Bjerre although not a wild card as such has done well.Who other than one of the Drymls will the Czechs pick.Just wait for Lonigo for a bad wild card :D

But I'm saying that they shouldn't pick riders that used to be in the GP's because we all know that riders like Rune Holta, Mikael Max, David Norris and Ales Dryml are capable of in the GP's, they should have had riders like Chris Harris, Jonas Davidsson and Erik Andersson, future Grand Prix riders.

Having seen Eric Andersson a few times, while he is a good rider,no way should he be in a GP.Think the Swedish authorities would laugh at that.He couldn't even qualify for the World U21 final. As for the others, can't see them doing better than those chosen. We would be having the same argument about them doing badly.Think the fact is there isn't that amount of depth in speedway.Outside the top 8 or 10 there are maybe 20 riders, all roughly the same.Put any in and they will do about the same as those left out.

zagar was a great choice, iversen was ok too.

norris wasnt fit and should never have been picked. should have been chris harris, or even simon stead.

ales dryml summed up the drmyl brothers with his performance last night. space and waste of springs to mind.

I guess thats the price to pay for trying to expand the GP series and the speedway world.Would Slovenia host a GP if they weren't going to have Matej in.O.k he is far better than any Italian, but do Benfield then say the host country can only host a GP if they have a rider good enough. There was talk that they might put a german rider in at Lonigo to boost the crowd, who knows.

Certainly deserves it,but will it help the Italians break even on this  German fans are certainly sought after.Look at Prague last year.In comparison, without a German rider i have heard that the crowd yesterday wasn't so good.Could be due to the weather of course. But there was at least one Italian who was adamant that an Italian would be in the line up

I thought the rumour was that Matej Zagar would get another chance as a Wild Card at Lonigo.

I can tell you that it's not just a rumour ...

I don't think that you need an Italian wild card to get big attendance in Lonigo GP. Italians like watching GP riders even if they're not of Italian nationality. And from what I've seen on a couple of ocassions when I was in Lonigo, they also like Zagar very much so ...

Plus there's also a connection to Italian boss Armando Castagna, of course ... ;)

I wouldn't say there has been any bad picks as wild cards, except maybe Holta for Sweden.

Everyone has been the in-form riders at the time, except Norris, Loram clearly wasn't fit and at the time, Norris' injury didn't seemn to be causing as much problem.

Zagar was a great pick of course but there wasn't really another option.

Now, Lindgren should be the pick for the scandanavian really, Pepe for Bydgoscz and I am hoping Zagar for italy, as much as seeing the old boy race again, he isn't going to fare well against the top class oposition.
