Someone eluded to the fact on a mail list, don't know if there is any fact there or just another rumour. Its a fact that its a rumour :clown Sorry I watched too much Yes Minister as a kid. Apparently it is a very real threat because of their regulations over there but strikes are so unusual there that they are not sure how it is going to pan out. I believe they are hoping that some sort of agreement will be reached before then

Zetters
Hi all! The GP will be at Sweden on 31 of may. Question is where? If the strikes is still on at monday 26 of may it will be on another track and stadium then Stockholm. Eskilstuna and Avesta is the hottest prospect in the moment. COME ON YOU ESKILSTUNA! Lioness
Thanks for letting us know Zetters. I'm glad it is going to go ahead Do the alternative venues have the same capacity as Stockholm or could there be problems if they have to be used with more tickets sold than the stadiums can hold? How far away are they from Stockholm too (sorry my Geography is non existant). Will there be problems with riders and spectators having to try and find alternative accomodation at short notice? Guest Jumppe
Hi, According to Swedish sources and Swedish TV 2 text television, Stockholm GP is canceled. According to same sources it is not moved to other tracks. Markku :-(
Papa Bazarou
Taken from the SGP web site 22-05-03 FIM MERIDIAN LIFTS SWEDISH SPEEDWAY GRAND PRIX ANNOUNCEMENT Due to domestic strike action in Sweden, a decision over whether or not the FIM Meridian Lifts Swedish Speedway Grand Prix will be held at the Olympic Stadium, Stockholm, will be made early next week. An alternative venue in Avesta has been provisionally booked for the weekend and will be the host of this year’s Grand Prix if strike action continues into next week. Commenting on the situation, Rolf Sundberg, Secretary General, SVEMO, the local organising promoter said: “Admittedly this is not an ideal situation for everyone involved in the staging of the event. We do have contingency plans in place to hold the GP at Avesta should the strike action fail to be averted. “In the meantime, we ask supporters who have already purchased tickets for the event to keep hold of their tickets until a decision has been made. If the event has to be moved we will give fans a choice of replacement tickets or a full refund.” John Postlethwaite, Chief Executive, Benfield Sports International, rights holders of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix Series said: “The one definite fact is that there will be a Swedish Grand Prix on 31 May. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Swedish media for their support of our case to stage the Grand Prix at the Olympic Stadium. The Grand Prix Series, which is broadcast to over 100 countries worldwide, attracts fans from all over the world to visit Stockholm, and it would be a real shame for the city if the event was not held in the historic stadium a week on Saturday.” FIM Race Director, Ole Olsen, commented: “The only restricting factor in terms of making an early decision is the laying down of the racing track at the stadium. We will leave this to the very last possible moment in order to maximise our chances of staging the event in Stockholm.”
Nicks Notes
This appears on the SVEMO site- It looks like a Monday morning decision to me, but then my Swedish is very weak. Can anyone translate, please?
Bliss
The Gp will be run in Sweden. The plan is still Stockholm Stadium but it is all depending on if the council strike is solved on monday 26th. If not, it will be run in Avesta,Brohallen. 164km from Stockholm.
Crazy Munchie
If it does take place in Avesta then Tricky's just secured another 25 points. It's his home town. It could turn out with a top three of Rickardsson, Adams, Zetterstrom. All of whom ride for Masarna.

Rico
taken from www.speedwaygp.com Good to see that they are arranging transport for the fans based in Stockholm. 26-05-03 CHANGE OF VENUE FOR NEXT GRAND PRIX Benfield Sports International (BSI) today announced they have been forced to change the venue of the FIM Meridian Lifts Swedish Speedway Grand Prix on 31 May from the Olympic Stadium, Stockholm, to the Avesta Stadium, Brovallen, Sweden. Rolf Sundberg, Secretary General, SVEMO, commented: “We have had no choice but to move the Grand Prix to Avesta as it appears the strike action here in Sweden will not be over for some time yet. We have now put our contingency plans into action and the Grand Prix will be held 150km from Stockholm at Avesta Stadium, Brovallen. “Tickets already bought for the event are still valid and we have made special transport arrangements for fans wanting to travel from Stockholm to Avesta Stadium. Supporters who wish to take advantage of this transport offer must call SVEMO on +46 11 23 10 80 to reserve a seat. A full ticket refund will be given to those who have already purchased tickets but cannot attend the event and his can also be arranged by contacting SVEMO on +46 11 23 10 80 before Saturday.” John Postlethwaite, Chief Executive, Benfield Sports International, said: “Obviously it is disappointing that for reasons totally beyond our control the Grand Prix will not be held at the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm. I would like to take this opportunity to thank SVEMO and the people of Avesta for arranging the Grand Prix to be held at an alternative venue at such short notice. “I’m sure the evening will be a great success and I can assure all broadcaster and sponsor partners that our usual high quality broadcast for the event will be fully in place. I think this is another example of the resilience of people in the sport of speedway who have a never-say-die attitude in the manner in which we run our sport. I’m looking forward to a great night of Grand Prix action on Saturday.
Peter
Benfield Sports International (BSI) today announced they have been forced to change the venue of the FIM Meridian Lifts Swedish Speedway Grand Prix on 31 May from the Olympic Stadium, Stockholm, to the Avesta Stadium, Brovallen, Sweden. Which stadium does Tony Rickardsson ride in, for his Swedish club? Avesta! I hope there's not a similar strike in Cardiff, otherwise the British GP will be moved to Poole! 21st century heathen
Well I've booking a holiday in Stockholm this weekend so that I could take in the GP while I was there. I've now got a 200 mile round trip to fit in. :x Oh and I called that number today and got a message in Swedish that was just looped, so I have no idea what it said. Have a feeling it may have been to call back in office hours. Guess who's not a happy bunny.

Have a feeling it may have been to call back in office hours. Guess who's not a happy bunny. We're in the same boat. I tried a few times to get through and was actually on hold to speak to the ONE person who is dealing with the buses. I got cut off after over 8 minutes waiting  I ended up e-mailing the lady directly and if I haven't heard anything back by later on today I'll be trying again. The e-mail address on the site is pernilla.larsson@svemo.se although previous correspondence with her shows it as pernilla@svemo.se - assuming I do hear back from them I will post on here what I find out. It looks like from www.svemo.se that the Avesta stadium has the capacity for 2000 seating and 8000 standing. Also looks like they have chopped the ticket prices a bit as it looks like 450kroner for a seat and 300kroner for the terracing. I fear pandemonium on Saturday night !
