tommy
SWC BID BY AMERICANS The USA, surprisingly defeated by Russia in the recent Speedway World Cup qualifier in Latvia, are hoping to host one of the two SWC preliminary rounds in 2006 - but in England! The Americans say they are making inquiries about staging a 'home' round on an Elite League track Assistant boss Richard Child explained: "We have already talked to a couple of promoters in England about staging a SWC qualifier on behalf of the Americans. "Holding one in the States would be unfair on the other teams because the expenses are part of the prize money. It would cost us money as well to send our guys back to the States. "But we would be very keen to host one in England. Whether that is allowed or not, we will have to wait and see.” speedwayworld.tv
frigbo
How bloomin' daft!
Sandie
It is daft but the Britsh Hot Air Balloon Championships used to be held in France!!! I think it is very forward thinking from the Americans - they obviously want to contribute but not make the paying public and participants pay out in travel costs. Good luck to them, at least it means a round in the UK again, we could loose out completely next year with the new format!
iris123
In football teams such as Jamaica and Australia have used Britain as a base. They do have large populations there though to support the teams. What happens if GB are not in the U.S round? How well will it be supported,i wonder. If all goes well though maybe they will have a GP round there
Hazzman
It will be a qualifier meaning unless Great Britain do worse than Russia or Germany they will not be in the meeting.

Liesdale
So how does holding the event in England mean that USA are hosting it?
iris123
This is speedway, anything goes.Guess it ensures they race on a familiar track.Personally i was thinking they wouldn't enter next year. The team is getting on a bit,the american authorities ain't too keen on spending money for things they ain't going to win.The squad has little depth to it,so one key injury and they are struggling.A trip to an eastern european country where the chances are they will go out are quite high. This is probably their best bet. Trees
I guess they want to stage it in the "american way", now that would be interesting, I bet Ermolenko is involved in this idea I wonder what track they have in mind??
Hazzman
So how does holding the event in England mean that USA are hosting it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They want the money made from it, going towards the AMA. They would rent out the track and take the gate receipts, catering and etc. Obivious choices for the venue are ones with strong American connections- Coventry, Oxford and Wolverhampton. I would enjoy a meeting like this. See the minor International teams come here. However I think that the qualifiers should be at the same time as the World Cup making 6 meetings rather than 4 meetings. Should a World Cup be an international event.
