BritPete
what a great night for Rico going round Nicki P and getting a max not at all bad for a gating tart hey!!!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Richardson, in the last month or so has overtaken as many riders as anybody, but, he is never going to get any credit for it because so many do not like him, he has twice beaten Pedersen from the back lately, once in the Cardiff GP, and again in the Swindon v Eastbourne league match, however, I do not include his overtake of Pedersen tonight, simply because it was tactics by Pedersen to drop a point, go 6 points behind, and therefore enabling Denmark to play their joker! shortoi
THAT WAS AWESOME!!! I think you had to be there, the atmosphere was incredible!! Going to watch the re-run on sky now. Good ole re-run Rico, working his good luck for a change. Deserved the 15 pointer, and the bumps that came with it. Watch this space for a picture of Steve Shovlar in a pink & sequinned hat, playing a blow-up guitar and holding a pom pom.
Subedei
However, I do not include his overtake of Pedersen tonight, simpy because it was tactics by Pedersen to drop a point, go 6 points behind, and therefore enabling Denmark to play their joker! I disagree. I thought it was more a series of errors by Nicki P, rather than tactics. There's got to be easier ways of "dropping" a point than trying to ride into the fence on every bend. Whatever. Richardson is very much the "man of the moment" around the Abbey at the minute. In fact, his form over the last month or so, in the Elite League (leaving aside Belle Vue) has been super. He even did well in his 3 rides for Swindon at Eastbourne last night. Edited July 31, 2005 by Subedei
BritPete
You can believe whatever you want, just explain to me why Pedersen could ride three laps of the track perfectly alright, and then be unable to ride the fourth lap at all well, and then he turned his head to watch Richardson sail past him! get real Sub Dude, that was VERY deliberate!
Subedei
I didn't think he looked altogether comfortable from the 2nd lap onwards. And besides, the tactical ride went to Andersen, who'd hardly impressed too much up until then. Yes, he won it, but it was risky. A better bet would've been to have gone 6 down when Nicki P was scheduled to come out, since to that point he'd been unbeaten.
Scooby Doo
nice to see rico get some praise for a change, the swindon track has been the same all year (one line) but you can only race on whats there and considering we aint the best of gaters they done brilliant.the danes bottled it in my opinion, did not like the rough patches got in there heads me thinks. anyone notice a miserable ole olsen on tv,could not doctor that track to suite the danes HA,HA,HA.british grasstrackers done us all proud. Sandie
What a brilliant evening. Excellent view, excellent racing ans excellent company. I wasnt sure about attending this one but was going to watch it on TV. My reasons - no seating and when you are small you have to pick your vantage point very carefully. BUT this was better than the final at Poole last year. (Sorry to all the guys that were with us tonight). The reason - we were able to stand and cheer, dance boogie, play air guitar (badly apparently!) and generally have a brilliant time enjoying the celebrations of each heat win. As a Cov fan I have to say well done first of all to Scotty and Bomber -you were both brilliant but also to the rest oif the team. You really knew they wanted to win out there. They pushed and they pushed. Only one hour to go and I can sit down in my lounge and watch it all again.I understand you see us Fairies once or twice!! Excellent package today - racing and entertainment. Well done Team GB
Tactical Sub
Ole Olsen, Peter Schmeichel, Niels Bohr, Hans Christian Andersen, Mr. Carlsberg, Mr. Lurpak, Victor Borge and the Little Mermaid - you're boys took a hell of a beating ! Just got back from Swindon and thought this was a fantastic evening, great atmosphere, good crowd, well-presented (good idea to bring in the excellent Kevin Coombs) and the GB boys were just fantastic. 13 race wins says it all - you did us all proud boys, all of you. Got to say that Steady and Bomber were magnificent and it just shows what can happen if the young Brits are given a chance and persevered with for a while in the EL. 12bore
That was exciting stuff made all the more exciting by the so-called "dodgy" track. Of course everyone was riding on the same track so there can be no complaints. Great team performance and I'm not convinced Loram would have added anything, personally I dont think Id change the team. As a side issue to all the commentators on the Cov threads .... yes we are going to struggle like hell when Harris moves into the team

youngy105
Congratulations Team GB That was one hell of a performance from all 5 of them. Screenie, Stead-Fast, Rico, Scotty and Bomber you can be very proud of yourselves tonight. Dilemma for Middlo though if Loramski is back to full fitness for Saturday.........me personally I'd keep the same 5.
Mr. Clemens
Congratulations on a great win to all of those boys tonight. Special kudos go to Chris Harris and to Simon Stead. Both these boys took the oppertunity on offer to them and excelled. They inspired the rest of the team to action, non more so than Lee Richardson, who answered all his critic with a brilliant 15 point maximum. Let it never be said again that Richardson cannot 'rise to the occasion when it matters'. Lee Richardson thread quotes My own quote on seeing him at Belle Vue 'I said he looked like 'death warmed up' in the pits on monday night. Looks like he's sunk even further into the pits.' Lee was there tonight 'looking as ill as ever' with the attitude, perhaps, that 'no matter what happens I will do my best for Great Britain'. QUOTE(cdl123 @ Jul 31 2005, 12:52 PM)taken from www.british-speedway.co.uk NEW GB FITNESS WORRYSunday, July 31, 2005GREAT Britain boss Neil Middleditch was left sweating on the fitness of Lee Richardson overnight ahead of their World Cup opener at Swindon.Richardson pulled out of Swindon’s Elite League clash at Eastbourne after three rides with illness.Middleditch said: “I sent a text message to Lee to check on him and he responded saying he had been sick and needed a good night of sleep.” My response to this was >> 'All the more reason for both Simon Stead and Chris Harris to take this opportunity to propel themselves to a higher status in Speedway. Good luck to both these lads and the rest of the team too. Nothing is a forgone conclusion and there is no reason why adversity (and the team being written off) can be the motivation to upset all predictions and come out on top'. From the 'Loram out Stead in' thread 'It's the oppertunity now for Stead to show he can mix it with the big boys. If he keeps his head and just goes out there and ride he can prove it to himself and everyone else. The Best of British Simon!!!!' This being being my response to the view that Denmark was guaranteed to win. 'Nowt like a good dose of defeatism to get the ball rolling. (Or 'realism as th'intellectuals will probably have it). The meeting (inclusive of typical reactions twixt Uncle and Nephew) Heat 1. Joe in last place (audible groan from everyone concerned with the fortunes of GB) GB 0 Denmark 3 Czech Rep 1 Russia 2 Heat 2. Old Saint
I also congratulate the team on a superb display of racing. Especial congratulations to Chris and Simon who showed where the next generation of British speedway will come from. Congratulations also to the referee who, I thought, had an excellent meeting. It made a change to get through a meeting with no contentious refereeing issues.

Why would their master plan be to use Hans Andersen as their Joker when he's been their worst rider up to that point? You're as potty as the bloke stood behind me who reckoned Pedersen had instructed Lukus Dryml to bring off Chris Harris, and went on about 'bloody Pedersen' because of it. DartfordHammer
Well done Team GB. I wrote them off and handed it to the Danes, and I must say I'm very happy to be proved wrong. Well the Russians gave us some entertainment that's for sure.. to start with anyway. Darkin looked like he could have won two races, which would have been a bit of a shocker. Shame his bikes pack up all the time Gafurov looked comfortable against the big boys too. And Vlasov (he of the dodgy first name) looked great in his opening ride, really pressuring Lee all the way round. As the meeting wore on though, the Ruskis looked out of touch a bit as the other teams rallied round, which was a shame. They did provide a second battle for 3rd place until the last 5 heats though, more than Italy or Hungary did last year. So well done Russia. Oh, and can Pedersen not make a mistake or two without becoming controversial? All he did was make a couple of mistakes in that race against Rico, and everyone jumps on him about throwing the race. He doesn't seem like someone who would give up a race win to me. Especially to give Hans Andersen the joker, who wasn't too great before then. He's not perfect, he's entitled to the odd mistake. But yes, well done Team GB. Well done Screeny, a battling effort. Well done Scotty, a captain's performance. Well done Steady and Bomber, a superb performance, you should both be proud as punch about it (even if you both gave us the odd heart attack with your all-action riding). And of course, well done Rico, absolutely stunning, a truly brilliant performance. Well done lads.
