Was it just me and my family that noticed this but what where the track graders doing? Not a lot by the looks of it.

Where was Dugard the Grading god? Where was the wonder wheel?

All the riders rate the wonder wheel so much so where the hell was it? Thought that a lot more could be of been done on the track aspect.

All the moaning apart still a good meeting.

All the best Kate

the behaviour of gates 3 and 4 were very interesting in the 2nd half of the meeting - who was responsible for the grading instructions - would it have been our friend Mr Olsen?

I dont think so!

I know one of the drivers and he is a very committed trackman - totally proffesional through and through.

But he reads the forum and so no doubt will be happy to answer for himself - if he thinks it's worth it! :D

there was a lot of waving going on though mf

to be honest the track grading was awful. the first thing i said to dad when we walked in was the track looks c**p, and i wasnt wrong :(  :P

Dont you start.

If I was a track grader and my kiddies were sat in the crowd - I would wave at them. It only took a second on the 4th bend for goodness sake and there were no problems there!. :D:D

Track wasnt great - however there was plenty of incident

Ive said before - you could have a deep track with only one line and have 23 races of pure boredom.

The track meant some top riders had to chase and ride a bit harder which kept us entertained all night.

As Gemini has stated - only 3 heats all night didnt have a pass in - surely that is value for money?

And so what if someone was waving - waving and arm doesnt have an effect on the grader that is on the tractor for christs sake

Nothing pleases you lot  -Tractors were out every four heats. They work from outside in for 8 laps.

Now this is the real hard bit-The tractor drivers all waved to the crowd and their families in Cardiff with their right hand-ask yourself why?

Cos all the tractors are left hand drive and they made the most of it for one GP-once a year.

Is there no pleasing you lot?

I believe Chivs and Gem are both wrong. :o

Only once did I see the little red tractor pass a big red tractor!

It got really boring towards the end. I dont think any of the tractor drivers were trying that hard, none of them really wanted it badly enough! :D

And whose silly idea was it giving them all the same colours. Red!

I know the people in our block were getting very confused. Why couldnt they have organised all four colours - it would have made it a lot easier to follow.

The best part of the tractor race was when they left the arena to go back through the pits........ the water container had been switched off and for some reason just before it disappeared down the tunnel the water spray came back on!!!!! Middlo got soaked  Oh did I chuckle!!!!!! Sorry Sir

Don't know when this track was layed, week before or few days. But that's how the one offs are made. Very hard, very slick. So when they have the interval, they only have to put the loose dirt back towards the inner line. Can't see the one offs made deeper than this was, and if they get in to trouble with it during the meeting, they cant do anything with it. I thought the first heats were boring, but after Norris got excluded, anything that was missing from the racing, was given back with the atmosphere.

Hi everyone sorry I waved to my two sons on the 4th bend obviously it upset some sad peoplebut I can ensure you I did and always do know what I am doing.:angry:

First question the wonder wheel has never or will ever be used on a temporary track as the surface has to be packed and rollered constantly until it is hard enough to stay in and the wheel would just rip it to pieces making for a very unsafe track .

I thought this info might be of interest to those of you who like to deal with figures. The track itself was laid from early tuesday morning to middle of the afternoon wed total of 2660 tonnes of shale was put down which arrived at various times day and night on a fleet of trucks 136 all together.

Each truck when it arrives drives round and round the track for a short while packing down the previous load which has been levelled and graded then tips his load and goes off for another this system is repeated until C/M is happy with the outcome .Personally i think this year was the best temp track I have worked on well done Colin.

The water truck when it disappeared down the tunnel didn,t come on by accident we water the concrete slip way down into the pits to keep dust down.Middlo isn,t the only famous face to get done we managed to catch Ole on practice Friday.

As the surface is so slick we only grade from the outside to inside every 4th race as per Sky request these 4 ht gaps are also in place for normal league meetings

hope this has been of interest cheers Mick F.T.M. B)B)

Thanks FTM, i thought it was the best track at Cardiff so far. Surely over time the construction of these types of track can only get better. Some of the early tracks GP circuit were bad, but i've been to some of the proper tracks and there have been ruts and problems with them. It seems an inherent part of the sport now to moan about the track surface.

I want to see GP's back at the big stadiums in Countries where speedway does not exist.

THe great thing about Cardiff GP is that it is right in the city.

Well FTM, I for one don't think thats good enough! Why only wave to Chivs and Robbie? I'm sure fairy4ever will agree with me that we expected a wave as well. Next year we'll expect to see you wave all the way round for fear of upsetting one of your friends. :P

Well done, I thought the track was good and appreciate all the time and effort that went into it. :approve:

Actually London Witch, he was trying to find us!! Chivs told him where we were approximately and of course our pink hats are a give away BUT - being the true proffesional that he is, he couldnt wave as he needed to concentrate coming out of the bend (or so he told me later that night)!!

SO - we weren't ignored - just you by the looks of it!!!!!! hehehehe :D

F.T.M.,

How thick was each layer? How many passes did the vibro-roller do in addition to the quarry wagons?

Was CM concerned about the moisture content in the track? It looked like water was trapped in it.

Were there any stipulations about the amount of fines in the track?
